GT Goku’s Dragon Ball FighterZ Character Trailer revealed during tonight’s Super Saiyan Showdown 2 event; will release on May 9th

Bear witness to “The Legendary Rematch” between Sean Schemmel and Chris Sabat!

Tonight the Esports Stadium Arlington and Expo Center in Arlington, Texas played host to another galactic-sized clash between legendary warriors, as Funimation’s English voice actor for Goku, Sean Schemmel had his highly-anticipated rematch with Chris Sabat, the English voice of Vegeta, Piccolo, and Yamcha, on the battleground of Dragon Ball FighterZ for the Super Saiyan Showdown II: The Legendary Rematch!

The two initially met back on January 25th, 2018, to commemorate the game’s launch, with Sabat taking home the Championship with a 3-0 victory. Now, over a year later, and the 30th Anniversary of the Dragon Ball Z anime in full swing, Sean hoped to redeem himself and prove once and for all that Goku is also the most dominant Saiyan in fighting games and deal another crushing blow to Sabat’s pride.

In addition, Bandai Namco Entertainment revealed the gameplay trailer for the next character in Season 2, Goku (GT). In the short clip, we get our first look at the pint-sized Saiyan’s “secret” Level 3, the Super Dragon Fist Explosion, which sees him transform into Super Saiyan 4 if at least one of his teammates is knocked out, and is said to be the strongest Level 3 in the game we’ve seen yet. He also turns into a Super Saiyan 3 briefly to toss a Kamehameha to enhance his Level 1 super. This occurs whenever both teammates are down. Goku (GT) will release on Thursday, May 9th, also known as Goku Day in Japan. The Season 2 pass continues with a yet-to-be-revealed fighter, Super Saiyan God Super Saiyan Gogeta and the Dragon Ball Super version of Broly set to release at an undisclosed date.

The upcoming fighter’s Z-Stamp, included colors, and lobby avatars were also revealed. Players will get access to both Goku (GT) in his base and Super Saiyan 4 forms for avatar options and the character’s colors are certainly on point. Goku (GT) sports his classic orange gi as his primary reference color and his third color also looks like a reference, this time to Xeno Goku of Dragon Ball Heroes fame, just with a yellow belt. It will be neat to see how the character’s colors affect the aesthetic of his Super Saiyan 4 transformation.

There was also a series of undercard matches, featuring Justin Cook, the voice of Raditz, taking on the voice of Whis, Ian Sinclair. Sarah Weidenheft, the voice of Grand Zeno, will look to flex her Omni-King powers against Jason Liebrecht, the voice of Universe 6’s God of Destruction, Lord Champa.  Then in a true battle of teacher vs. student, the voice of Majin Buu, Josh Martin, faced off with Chris Rager, the voice of the Champ himself, Mr. Satan. Next, the voice of Kuru, Universe 4’s Supreme Kai, Justin Briner, went against Daman Mills, the voice of Universe 7’s strongest warrior Monaka.

Finally, in a battle of Universe 6’s female Saiyans, the voice of Kale, Dawn M. Bennett, looks to prove her worth against her sworn sister, the voice of Caulifla, Elizabeth Maxwell. The English voice of Krillin, Sonny Strait, served as the event’s MC, with IFC Yipes and Chris Matrix on commentary. You can catch all of the action below, including the victory of the latest rematch!
