Turning to one of the more obscure characters in the Smash 4 roster, IzAw has made Olimar the subject of his latest “Art of” character guide. First appearing in Super Smash Bros. Brawl, Olimar fights alongside his Pikmin, a species of plant-like aliens who follow his every command. As he requires good micromanagement skills to be played effectively and is one of the lightest characters in the game, Olimar is rarely seen in tournament. However, the ones you do see are often deadly, with players like RNG|Dabuz and Shuton using the miniature space captain to great effect.
By keeping control of your Pikmin line-up, Olimar can quickly shift from defense to offense by cycling between his troops. His small stature makes him hard to hit and he can easily weave out of danger with his decent ground speed. However, his predictable recovery and low weight mean that he dies very quickly when caught out of position. When an Olimar player is playing well, they can completely control the flow of the match, thanks to his huge hitboxes, great grab game and fast acting normals. If an opponent is able to get in his face and deny Pikmin pulls, he will struggle.
