Team NINJA’s Yohei Shimbori would love to add cross-platform play to Dead or Alive 6

Cross-platform play is something that’s only recently becoming more common in gaming. While we’ve had attempts before — such as with Street Fighter V having cross-platform play across PS4 and PC — it’s only now that we’re starting to see efforts to allow it between rival consoles.

Now, at least one fighting game developer seems excited at this new development. Speaking to GamingBoltDead or Alive 6 director Yohei Shimbori stated that, while cross-platform play isn’t in the pipeline for the game, he would love to be able to add it. Specifically, he stated that cross-platform plays is “not something we can promise now, but it is one of my dreams”.

Fighting games are arguably one genre that would work well with cross-play; not only would it expand a fighter’s playerbase, but the difference in input methods aren’t as pronounced as in other genres such as shooters or strategy games.

Dead or Alive 6 launches on PlayStation 4, PC, and Xbox One on February 15, 2019.
