Japan Cup 2016: the first Street Fighter V Capcom Pro Tour Premier since Evo 2016, took place this past weekend at the annual Tokyo Game Show in Japan. This invite-only tournament featured some of the best SFV players from around the world, making their mark in the Land of the Rising Sun this season.
Street Fighter veterans such as Zowie|Gamerbee and Secret|Poongko finally achieved higher placings (that were the norm for them in Street Fighter IV) after a rough start at the beginning of the CPT season. Meanwhile, up-and-coming talent such as Japanese Ken player Rinta gained a solid fourth place finish after taking down a lot of established players along the way. Young Rashid specialist, John Takeuchi, ended at a respectable ninth place following his landmark win at First Attack a few weeks ago.
There were also plenty of shocking upsets and eliminations, with players such as BSTlDaigo, Evil Genius’ Justin Wong and Ricki Ortiz and RZRlXian drowning in pools! These are players who have won multiple CPT Ranking majors this year and for them to not even make into the top 64 just goes to show tough this Premier tournament was in Japan.
Here are the Winners’, Losers’ and Grand Finals replays of the Japan Cup tournament. You can watch the rest of pools, top 64 and top eight matches in the source at the end of this post.
