DreamHack Atlanta mysteriously cancels Dragon Ball FighterZ tournament a week before event

Out of nowhere, DreamHack Atlanta 2018 has made the decision to cancel its Dragon Ball FighterZ event. Seeing how DHATL is set for Nov. 16th-18th, the suddenness of the announcement is understandably bizarre and frustrating for anyone that may have gone just for DBFZ.

Wow we don’t know what the reasoning was for canceling the event, FGC Director of DreamHack Jebailey insists that it had nothing to do with the number of signups:

It’s easy to believe Jebailey here considering there are other games that, at the time of this writing — such as Street Fighter V: Arcade Edition, BlazBlue: Cross Tag Battle, and Tekken 7 — with fewer entrants than what DBFZ had when cancelled. Based off the tweet above, it sounds like there might be a legal constraint — which could mean, for speculative example, licensing issues. Unless DHATL releases a statement, though, this will remain a mystery as to why just DBFZ was targeted for cancellation.
