Killer Instinct Season 3 Mini Roundup – Flipout Basics, Option Selects, and More

Killer Instinct Season 3 is now in full swing, and the availability of the title on PC has certainly brought in a host of new players itching to start laying into each other with lengthy combos. With this in mind, we’ve gathered up a few videos surrounding the game to help newcomers get started as quickly as possible on the path to Killer rank. Let’s go!

First up, Sajam takes a look at the game’s new flipout system, which adds all sorts of devastating mixup options. Sajam gives a rundown of how TJ Combo can make the most out of this system, but he’s certainly not the only character able to use it. Stick around until the end of the video for some tips on how to deal with these sorts of setups on the defensive end as well.

Thanks to the way the combo system works in Killer Instinct, it’s possible to use an easy option select to hit-confirm. While the inputs may differ slightly across the board, the general idea remains the same on all characters: buffer a linker into your opener and if the opener hits, the linker comes out and connects as well. If the opener doesn’t connect as a hit–you guessed it–the linker doesn’t come out. This allows for the offensive party to continue pressure as they see fit.

David “UltraDavid” Graham of UltraChen TV could probably find an option select in Hungry Hungry Hippos, so it comes as little surprise that he’s already released a short video demonstrating a useful OS for Killer Instinct’s third season. The option select is fairly simple, making use of a jumping short attack followed by a specifically-timed fierce–though other auto-double options should work just fine as well–then a throw to allow easy confirmation into a combo if the jump short hits, and performing a throw if it’s blocked.

And to wrap things up, we’ve included a ridiculously long Ultra Combo–198 hits, to be exact–performed by none other than Killer Instinct’s embodiment of disrespect, Rash. While we can’t verify whether or not this is truly a world record as the video title suggests, we can say that it is, by far, the longest Ultra Combo for the newcomer we’ve seen.
