Capcom UK started a series of videos earlier this year that looks at the characters appearing in the Street Fighter universe. Instead of offering tips and tricks on how to play these fighters, the series focuses on their history–everything from the games they’ve appeared in to the story elements that keep them rooted in the franchise. Previously, these videos have covered both Rose and Dudley, while the third episode, which hit YouTube earlier today, takes a look at baton-twirling mercenary Rolento.
Rolento’s history is an interesting one, as he counts himself among the handful of characters to appear in a Capcom title before Street Fighter II hit arcades. It’s fun to see how much the character has changed in this timespan, as well as how much he has remained the same. This is most apparent when Rolento’s boss battle from Final Fight begins and that same, upbeat theme song that we hear when he takes the stage in Ultra Street Fighter IV starts playing.
The brief battle leading up to Rolento also makes a compelling argument for why Cody is offered a knife in the middle of every stage in later games instead of a pipe. No one would stand a chance otherwise.
The video covers plenty more information surrounding the white-eyed warrior, so if you’re a fan of Rolento or just enjoy historical Capcom tidbits, be sure to check it out.
