Continuing their informative interview series, Arcade Stream recently released another snippet of their conversation with local competitor Lee “Poongko” Chung Gon.
This time around, their discussion centers on Poongko’s recent decision to develop a pocket Elena in Ultra Street Fighter IV. While a strong character in her own right, Poongko chose the dancer because of one player in particular: Bryant “Smug” Huggins of Team PIE.
“I don’t know if I should be saying this here, but I’ve been practicing Elena because of Smug’s Dudley,” Poongko explained. “I think the Seth vs. Dudley matchup is 5-5, but it’s only against Smug where I have difficulty.”
The two players have met only once in a major tournament, with Smug defeating Poongko by a score of 5-2 during TOPANGA World League 2. Poongko mentions that he’s lost a few casual sets to the American player as well.
While he’s yet to reveal his Elena on a large stage, Poongko recently gave her a try against fellow Korean competitor Naraks and his C. Viper at an Arcade Stream monthly. “I wanted to see how well Naraks could deal with my Elena and to examine my own Elena play, which is a big part of it, so I won’t be nervous in tournaments,” Poongko continued. “If I fight Smug again, I can say I was prepared.”
