SmashTheRecord 2016 to Combine Super Smash Bros. and Speedrunning for Charity This November

This November 11-13, SmashTheRecord 2016 is set to take over Kissimmee, Florida. SmashTheRecord is a charity event that has been raising money and spreading awareness for the kids of St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital since 2014. Last year, the event raised over $50,000.

There will be many events taking place at SmashTheRecord this year. Some of those events include a Super Smash Bros. doubles tournament with a significant other, a rock-paper-scissors tournament, as well as video game speedruns and speedraces. The event will be streamed live by VGBootCamp and SpeedRunsLive, so make sure to tune in to check out all of the action!

We had the pleasure of speaking with the event’s organizer, Alex Chiricosta, who noted that “there is nothing more rewarding than raising money for a cause as great as St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital. Running a large-scale event while working full-time is extremely taxing, but that moment when you realize you’re helping the world makes everything worth it.”

Additional details, as well registration and speedrun submission forms for SmashTheRecord 2016 can be found on the event’s official site.
