Street Fighter V Beta Roundup: UltraDavid Shares an Alpha Counter Option Select, Birdie Joins the 700 Damage Club, and Much More

With the recent Street Fighter V worldwide beta, we’ve been seeing a flood of new discoveries across the cast. We’ve hand-picked some of the best videos to bring you a compilation that you’ll not want to miss–especially if you’re a Chun-Li player.

Up first, we’ve got a video from community roundup veteran Pepopulo that explores combo options for a handful of characters. These combos all involve interesting juggle applications–things like Cammy landing two successive EX Cannon Strikes and Nash gaining a fancy juggle option into a reset.

Chun-Li has a seriously floaty jump in Street Fighter V. Luckily, her V-Skill offers a more sharply-angled approach option and can be used to create fast cross-ups to crack open opponents’ defenses and get the damage flowing.

The video below, from Ranking Battles Norway, shows not only how to best go about making sure your V-Skill cross-ups connect, but how to make the most of the deep hits that offer combo options afterward.

Up next, StreamFighters offer a bit of Chun-Li technology surrounding her aerial Hyakuretsukyaku. Through the use of what they’re calling a Head Stomp Cancel, Chun can apply pressure and get combos going with the MK version of her aerial lightning legs that wouldn’t have otherwise been possible.

If you’re looking to get more acquainted with Chun-Li’s normal attacks, this next video, also from StreamFighters, brings a breakdown of everything you’ll need to know about what the interpol agent’s buttons can do. These notes include blocking requirements, applications, and much more.

We’ve seen some devastating ways to confirm into a Denjin Hadouken in the life of the Street Fighter V beta, but this video from Lars is one of the more interesting ones. With proper spacing following a hard knockdown, Ryu can force opponents to eat a fully-charged Hadouken and then follow it up with the super-charged Critical Art to (likely) put an end to the match.

With help from community members KikoMasterRD and Wael3rd, UltraDavid figured out an option select–as he is wont to do–that takes advantage of the game’s alpha counter system. David shows the technique being used with Bison’s scissor kick, but it can be applied to any special move that ends in a forward motion, including fireballs.

There’s a good chance that the applications of this option select will only grow from what we’re seeing in this video, so look forward to that as the game grows.

Crush counters are the new norm for max damage combo options, and this one-off combo video from Scan has more big damage goodness for those of you who like nothing more than seeing that enemy health bar drain away as quickly as possible. This combo in particular involves Birdie’s entrance exam for the 700 club, which he passes easily with the employ of only a couple of attacks after the crush counter connects.

And we close things out today with a basic combo breakdown for Bison. If you’re brand new to Street Fighter V and are looking to pick up Dictator, or know someone who is, this video is the perfect place to get started on the long road to world domination.
