In a new video, Cagar demonstrates how even one frame of latency can make the difference between a move connecting and whiffing in Street Fighter V. By dividing a move’s range into “guaranteed range” and “uncertain range,” we can see how input delay essentially carves out a section of the guaranteed range and turns a grab or hit that would have been safe or certain into only a “maybe,” depending on execution and the startup frames or proximity guarding. Footsies can become problematic if players are unclear where their effective range reaches.
Street Fighter V’s offline input lag on PlayStation 4 has been raising concerns, though using legacy controllers has been reported to reduce that latency.
