Trading Damage for V-Meter Building May Offer New Opportunities in Street Fighter V

Whether at the start of a round to set the tone, or to clutch out a comeback, stringing together as many hits as possible to drain an opponent’s life feels good. But is the big damage conversion always the best route to take? In a new video, Pan offers some insights into this question.

Since some characters have V-Skills that work easily into combos, smart money may (sometimes) be on using this opportunity to snag a chunk of V-Meter for use later in the round. In the case of Karin, stocking up on V-Meter by sacrificing small amounts of damage here and there stands to help mitigate incoming pressure after she finds herself knocked down. By burning some of this excess V-Meter to perform a V-Reversal on her opponent, the Kanzuki heiress can hang on to her EX meter for use elsewhere.

The video includes sections for Karin, Ken, Chun-Li, Necalli and Vega with insights into just how important this tactic may be for each. If you often find yourself playing as any of these characters, be sure to give the video a look. It may change the way you think about ending combos.
