With the completion of Winter Brawl 12, Big E Gaming has announced the end of the Winter Brawl series and the launch of a new event, April Annihilation. Speaking before the finals of Dragon Ball Fighter Z at Winter Brawl on Sunday, Eric “BigE” Smalls said the decision to create a new event later in the year will provide more separation from Northeast Championships, the organization’s longest running tournament series, and potentially attract more sponsorship from fighting game pro tours.
April Annihilation is currently scheduled for April 12 to 14, 2019 at the Crowne Plaza Philadelphia-Cherry Hill in Cherry Hill, New Jersey. As a part of the announcement, Big E Gaming put together a tribute to some of Winter Brawl’s most memorable moments through the years and thanked the volunteers and sponsors who helped make the tournament possible.
Since its inception in 2015, the North American Capcom Pro Tour has launched in March with Final Round and NorCal Regionals but there has not been a consistent CPT event in April. Due to release timings last year, the 2017 Injustice 2 Pro Series and Tekken World Tour started in May and June respectively.
Big E Gaming organizes four major tournaments a year: Northeast Championships, Summer Jam, The Fall Classic (alongside the Final Round team) and now April Annihilation. Of those four, only Summer Jam is a part of the Capcom Pro Tour as a ranking event.
