Nintendo’s foray into a paid online service subscription has begun.
Nintendo Switch users can now buy into Nintendo’s new online subscription service, Nintendo Switch Online. It launched last night, after a minor delay.
The service offers a number of perks: cloud game saves (but don’t let your subscription lapse), integration with a smartphone app for chat, access to special offers, and a playable library of NES classics — but the primary reason to pick up the service is that many games utilizing online multiplayer will require it, including (most notably for fighting fans) games such as ARMS, and Super Smash Bros. Ultimate when it drops in December.
Users can try a 7-day trial, or buy right into an auto-renewing subscription ($3.99 USD for 1 month, $7.99 USD for 3 months, or $19.99 USD for a whole year). A “Family” pricing plan is also available if you want to include multiple user accounts. More details are available on Nintendo’s official site.
