The King of Fighters XIII comes to Xbox Live Gold and Xbox Game Pass Ultimate subscribers on January 1, 2021

Relive one of the greatest triumphs in pixel art through GWG and backwards compatibility.

Xbox announced the next batch of games coming to Xbox Live Gold and Xbox Game Pass Ultimate subscribers next month with The King of Fighters XIII heading to players’ libraries starting on January 1, 2021. You’ve got two weeks to claim the game, so be sure to add it to your account before January 15. All games are available to claim and play on Xbox One and Xbox Series X|S with backwards compatible titles also available to play on Xbox 360.

KOF XIII offers a great cast of characters with incredibly detailed and beautifully animated sprites. The gameplay is also fantastic and taught me how to better execute supers in fighting games across the board. Be warned though, KOF XIII is also home to what might be considered one of the most infuriating final boss fights in the history of the genre. KOF XIII is one of my favorite fighting games and I am glad to have access to it again on a current-gen console thanks to Xbox’s commitment to backwards compatibility.

On top of KOF XIII, subscribers will also get access to Little Nightmares, Dead Rising, and Breakdown. Definitely a solid month overall for folks who don’t own these titles already. If you are in the market for other retro KOF titles, KOF Neowave is also available on Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, and Xbox 360 through backwards compatibility for $9.99.
