SoulCalibur VI is getting a second guest character, in the form of 2B from NieR: Automata. As part of this, it seems that Yoko Taro, the creator of the latter game, had some trouble creating names for her various moves for the game.
In the latest issue of Dengeki PlayStation, Yoko Taro mentions that coming up with names for 2B’s attacks in SoulCalibur VI ended up being “more trouble than expected”. This is because they wanted names that felt right for the game. As such, they actually had to come up with a ruleset for creating these names.
Speaking of names, the interview also goes over the nickname of 2B’s alternate color: “2P”. When asked what the P means, Taro eventually throws out “Panasonic” (in reference to the electronics company). While seemingly a joke, Taro later concludes that the P does stand for that. “It’s fine, I mean they’re world-famous,” he states. “So that decides it, 2P’s P stands for Panasonic.” Additionally, he mentions how “Panasonic” means “every sound”, and that the word fits the theme of the ending theme from NieR.
