At the 2018 Tokyo Game Show, Famitsu got a chance to talk to Team NINJA’s Yohei Shimbori, the producer behind Dead or Alive 6. During the interview, they talked about various topics including its graphics, story, and new characters.
In regards to the graphics, Shimbori actually states that the graphics engine was not yet complete. This is an interesting statement considering, as Famitsu noted, how much an improvement Dead or Alive 6‘s graphics already are over its predecessor.
Meanwhile, regarding the gameplay, Shimbori states that he wants to emphasize reading over reacting to an opponents recovery. He also mentions wanting to change the flow of the game from “Critical → Critical → Critical” (likely referring to how the previous game tried to emphasize going for deep critical stuns). Instead, he wants players to have a choice between options such as going for early launchers, or simply doing Fatal Rush in combos. Regarding Fatal Rush, he confirms that they changed its start up time to 18 frames for the TGS build, though he states that it may still change in the future.
In addition to this, Famitsu also brought up the game’s female newcomer, someone Shimbori hinted at previously. Regarding her, all Shimbori stated was that she had a top-class voice actress, before admitting that this wasn’t much of a hint at all.
Of course, they talks a bit more about other things as well, including the game’s story. You can check out the entire interview (in Japanese) over at Famitsu.
Dead or Alive 6 is currently being shown off at the 2018 Tokyo Game Show where recently revealed characters Ayane, Bayman, Honoka, and Marie Rose are playable. The game is set to launch on PlayStation 4, PC, and Xbox One on February 15, 2019.
