While there was much speculation that a new Mortal Kombat game would be announced at E3, no such announcement has been made. Now, as part of Giant Bomb’s E3 live streams, Ed Boon himself talks about this, confirming that there was no forthcoming Mortal Kombat announcement at the event.
In addition this however, Boon also talks about NetherRealm’s pattern of announcing games. For those who aren’t familiar: for the past four games now, NetherRealm has always revealed them on or slightly before E3. This on the E3 after their previous game had received its “complete” retail edition (e.g. Mortal Kombat XL, Injustice: Gods Among Us – Legendary Edition). Specifically, Boon states that they’re moving away from that, stating that “It’s certainly something that we’re changing around.”
In addition to this however, he does also states that they’re “chomping at the bit to talk about stuff, but at the moment we have nothing that they’re announcing.” This seems to indicate that they are working on something, but that they aren’t ready to reveal what it is at the moment.
You can check out Boon talking about this at 1:43 in the video below.
