New SNK fighters are on the way, according to Yasuyuki Oda and Hayato Watanabe

Fans of SNK fighters may have a lot to look forward in the next year, as the company are developing “many new fighters”, according to an interview from IGN Latin America. Speaking to the site during Evo 2017, King of Fighters XIV producer Yasuyuki Oda and combat designer Hayato Watanabe discussed upcoming SNK titles, the future of KOF XIV and its potential sequel.

As for updates to KOF XIV, Oda stated that the studio wasn’t quite sure about if the studio would continue developing content for the game. If they did any new content, it would be additional characters, but it takes a large investment of time and money to make these things a reality. A balance patch is “a possibility”, with both Watanabe and Oda being convinced that fans will see King of Fighters XV sometime in the future.

On the esports front, Oda wants to continue supporting the international KOF scene with tournaments like the KOF XIV World Championship, along with events for future SNK fighting games. Oda finished the interview by stating that there are “many new fighters” in the works at SNK, and that fans should stay tuned for more information.

With SNK rereleasing classic games like Samurai Shodown, Fatal Fury and Last Blade on every device known to man, it’s clear that they are doing some sort of market research to determine which series should return. Tokyo Games Show is coming up in October, so we may see an announcement there.
