With Tekken 7’s release just a matter of months away, today’s MASTERCUP.7, will be sending off Tekken Tag Tournament 2 Unlimited with a bang. 176 teams of 5 are registered to compete, totaling 880 players, making it not only the largest Tekken event in Japan, but also the largest in the world.

Despite the massive number of teams, MASTERCUP isn’t a simple single-elimination tournament. Play starts with the first preliminary. Teams are broken up into blocks of five or six teams, totaling 31 blocks. The first place team of each block advance straight to the second preliminary, while the second and third place teams head to the grueling wildcard. 83 teams will enter the wildcard, but only one will advance to the second preliminary to complete the bracket of 32. Of those, eight will survive to make up the finals tournament.

This year’s MASTERCUP will feature two streams, to cater to both Japanese and English audiences. Game Newton will be providing the Japanese stream, while the English broadcast will be viewable on the official TEKKEN Twitch channel with host MarkMan.
