EverQuest: Second Progression Server In the Works

Second Progression Server In the Works

The Daybreak EverQuest forum has been updated with the announcement that a second progression server is in the works. The first, Ragefire, was built to be twice as large as those that came before, and it is packed to the rafters. The result of that is the forthcoming Lockjaw server now in the preparation stages.

Guild Wars 2: The Beta Was Eventful

The Beta Was Eventful

Quests have always been a staple for MMOs, and while they do make an appearance in Guild Wars 2, it’s the events that will steer most of your adventuring. The core of Guild Wars 2 introduced the mechanic of the dynamic event, and the Living World experimented with it. Now it’s time to see how HoT will take the concept to the next level.

Arc System Works Announces Guilty Gear Xrd -REVELATOR-, Johnny Joining Playable Cast

Say what you want about Arc System Works, but they stay busy. New details from the developer have revealed they plan to release a follow-up to their hugely popular Guilty Gear Xrd subtitled -REVELATOR-. This upcoming installment is set to improve on the previous title with numerous balance adjustments and at least two new characters.

Two new characters?! Yep, you read that right. While one is still just a mysterious silhouette, the other should be a familiar face for longtime fans of the Guilty Gear franchise.

According to Famitsu, Jellyfish Pirate captain Johnny will make his playable debut in the Xrd series with REVELATOR. While few gameplay details have been provided, the images below show that he retains a few components of his fighting style from previous installments, namely the coin throws that contributed to his offensive options.

But wait, there’s more! REVELATOR will also introduce a brand new control scheme. Much like the alternate input options seen in the BlazBlue franchise, Stylish Mode will give players a chance to use simplified controls. While it won’t see any use in competitive play, this could be seen as a great way to acclimate newcomers to the game before throwing them into the deep end, so to speak.

Guilty Gear Xrd -REVELATOR- location tests are scheduled for the weekends of June 5 and 19 at arcades across Japan, so stay tuned for more details in the near future.

Erratic Sound Effects, Invisible Sonic Booms, and More; Take a Look at the Lighter Side of Ultra Street Fighter IV’s Poor PlayStation 4 Launch

When a new game releases, we here at Shoryuken like to gather up content and highlight what the community has found early on as a way to gauge how competition might shape up as it the title matures. Combos, frame traps, character strategy–you name it, and a player has likely released a video of their findings.

Ultra Street Fighter IV, however, is different, but not in the way you’d expect. Sure, some form of the game has existed for close to seven years now, but the recent PlayStation 4 port features a bevy of fantastic additions that are sure to put a smile on your face. And, no, I don’t mean new unblockable setups.

See, this version of Street Fighter IV was handled almost entirely by Other Ocean Interactive, a third-party studio who is perhaps best known within our little scene as the studio who released Mortal Kombat Arcade Kollection, which shipped with a variety of problems that had to be fixed by post-launch patching. As we reported earlier today, numerous community members took issue with Ultra Street Fighter IV on PlayStation 4 almost immediately, lambasting the title’s menu slowdown, random stuttering, and general input lag.

Those are annoying problems, no doubt, but one thing these quick impressions missed out on were all the hilarious glitches found as the day wore on. Sure, the argument could be made that some of these bugs have the possibility of negatively affecting competition, but with the launch this game has seen, all you can do at this point is sit back and laugh.

So, to bring some more joy to your Tuesday evening, here’s our Ultra Street Fighter IV on PlayStation 4 glitch roundup.

First up, we have a handful of sound glitches courtesy of stovenven. Their recorded footage raises some questions regarding the cast’s animal costumes; it appears as if whenever a fighter dons this wild attire, something screwy happens to the stage’s native sound effects. As you’ll see (hear?) in the videos below, Dudley now has the ability to steal car noises and dinosaur screeches, and Seth can even channel his inner howler monkey.

Oh, and the announcers also seems to forget his lines at times, though he may just harbor some sort of grudge against Rolento.

As if players like Liquid’s Du “Nuckledu” Dang and Kevin “Dieminion” Landon didn’t make the American soldier look strong enough, the folks behind this crazier-by-the-minute port gave Guile’s Sonic Boom a much-needed buff. “What kind of buff?” you may be asking yourself. “Is it faster? Does it do more damage? Did they shorten charge time?” Nope! Wrong, wrong, and wrong. What they did, dear reader, is render it nearly invisible.

I would like to take this time to preemptively congratulate both Nuckledu and Dieminion on their impressive first and second (or vice versa) finishes at Evo 2015.

And finally, nsb5024 has provided us an example of the aforementioned stuttering currently affecting Ultra Street Fighter IV on PlayStation 4. In the video below, Juri’s Senpusha appears to cause both her and Dan to enter a strange trance, bobbing their heads randomly, creating clones of themselves, and generally doing everything they can to make the title as unplayable as possible.

Since this is the only footage available at the moment, it’s hard to pinpoint exactly what causes things to go to crap. Also, we also can’t confirm it happens outside of training mode. Still though, look at them go. Wow.

While Ultra Street Fighter IV on PlayStation 4 might not be the best fighting game around right now, I think we can all agree that it’s up there with the funniest, right? Feel free to send us more glitch footage through our tip line or let us know what other ridiculous bugs you’ve found in the comments below.
