Last week, we learned quite a bit about Street Fighter V, from its various gameplay mechanics to the inclusion of Cammy and Birdie. Fortunately, Capcom didn’t take long to provide the community with high-level play.
In addition to random single-elimination brackets for attendees, the developers held two special tournaments featuring some of the strongest Street Fighter players in the world, allowing global powerhouses the opportunity to put the upcoming game through its paces and show us what its new systems are currently capable of. With names like Daigo Umehara, Tokido, Justin Wong, Ricki Ortiz, Momochi, and Xian in attendance, there was no doubt we were in store for something special, and that’s exactly what we got.
The first of these competitions, a tournament that split players into teams representing their major sponsors, gave us our first glimpse at what Street Fighter V has in store for our scene, and now you can catch replays if you happened to miss out on watching it live. Check out the footage Capcom has provided below, alongside community manager Peter “Combofiend” Rosas running a personal kumite, and let us know what you think.
