Capcom Partners with Brave Wave to Release High-Quality Street Fighter II Soundtrack

Still pumped from Capcom’s release of Street Fighter V themes this morning? While visiting San Diego Comic-Con, the developer announced that they have teamed up with a company called Brave Wave to rerelease the iconic Street Fighter II soundtrack in a high-quality package for a look at how the series’ music got to that point.

Known previously for their work on similar retro projects, Brave Wave has gone all out to make sure their Street Fighter II tribute is as authentic as possible. These soundtracks have been lifted straight from their original homes on CPS1 and CPS2 arcade boards and remastered under the supervision of Street Fighter II composer Yoko Shimomura, and the physical release will feature classic art from Capcom’s own archives.

All in all, Brave Wave appears to be handling this project with all the respect it deserves, and it should be fantastic to hear the fruits of their labor when it finally launches. More details and final package designs are expected in the future, so stay tuned for more information.

Don’t Like Chubby Birdie or Ken’s Ponytail in Street Fighter V? Capcom May Eventually Release Classic Costumes

While characters like Ryu and Chun-Li haven’t seen much adjusting in the transition to Street Fighter V, fans were surprised to see returning fighters Birdie and Ken revealed with drastic changes to their core designs. Even M. Bison, the stoic dictator who has served as the primary antagonist for much of the series, joins the upcoming game with graying hair to signify his aging.

It wouldn’t be an exaggeration to say many were unimpressed with Birdie’s beer belly and Ken’s manbun, but the developers may have an answer for those fans down the line.

“If you look at what happened with Street Fighter IV, there’s tons of variety in terms of costumes. We’ll definitely be doing that in the long run,” Capcom’s Matt Dahlgren told IGN during an interview at San Diego Comic-Con. “We’re starting off by just showing the core look of the characters, but as time goes on there will be variation. So those that want a classic Ken, I’m sure that will be in the pipeline at some point.”

Of course, there is a fair bit of trepidation in that statement that keeps it from being a concrete announcement but, hey, at least folks have something to look forward to if they want boring ol’ Ken back.
