Super Smash Bros. for Wii U Receiving Tournament Mode, Replay Uploads This Friday
Super Smash Bros. for Wii U players have a big weekend coming up thanks to the next game update, which is slated to launch this Friday, July 31. While no information currently exists surrounding whether or not characters will receive any tweaks in this update–safe money is on yes–we do know that a new mode, the ability to upload replays, new stages, and new outfits for Mii Fighters will be making their way to the game.
First, Nintendo will be adding access to a new Tourney Mode. This mode allows players to compete in both “community” and “regular” tournaments, where they will battle for points within parameters set by the competitors themselves. It seems that Nintendo will also be hosting official events in the future using this free-to-download addition.
Fans of retro stages will be pleased to learn that the ver.1.10 update also adds in the ability for players to purchase both Peach’s Castle and Hyrule Castle from the original Nintendo 64 release. These stages will run $1.99 each. A bundle option will also be available at a cost of $2.99, which will provide purchasers with access to each stage on both the Wii U and 3DS versions of the game.
And finally, an update just wouldn’t be an update without adding some new Mii Fighter fashion options. The most recent ones come in the form of Donkey Kong’s King K. Rool and Fire Emblem’s Chrom. If a more streetwise getup suits your fancy, you’ll also be able to snag an in-game Smash hoodie.

While this has only been announced by Japanese sources, it’s likely players in North America and Europe will also get their hands on this content soon.
