Protect Ultimate Marvel vs. Capcom 3 Characters with Assist Priority

A particularly interesting piece of Ultimate Marvel vs. Capcom 3 information recently surfaced courtesy of Japanese player Cross, who imparted a bit of knowledge on the game thanks to a simple question from Northern California resident Vineeth “Apologyman” Meka.

Earlier today, Apologyman asked on Twitter why Cross chooses his characters in a particular order and then switches while the match loads. While many attributed this to a simple superstition, Arcade UFO owner Ryan “Fubarduck” Harvey stepped in to provide his services. After contacting Cross directly, Harvey was provided with a pretty cool response that shows there is definitely a method to the madness.

According to Cross, each character in a team is assigned priority depending to their position when chosen on the character select screen. This priority determines how they are targeted by enemy attacks, making it possible for certain positions to “protect” others from moves that hit them at the same time. Essentially, you can force the game to recognize certain characters as being in one position before switching them and keeping the original priority.

There are some restrictions, however. This particular technique is exclusive to Xbox 360, and also only works for attacks like Wesker’s gunshot and Doctor Doom’s Hidden Missiles. We should also note that the priority hierarchy (3>1>2) makes it so that the first and second characters can cover for your anchor and the second can cover for your point, but neither the point or the anchor can “protect” the fighter in the second position, if that makes sense.

While not entirely game-changing, the potential to have an enemy’s offense focus on your assists instead of your active character for just a split-second can mean the difference between a loss and a victory. Be sure to experiment with it yourself and see what you can find. And remember, don’t be afraid to ask questions; you never know what you’ll learn!

General: The Five Most Significant Korean MMOs

The Five Most Significant Korean MMOs

Here in North America, anyone who is even a semi-serious MMOG enthusiast is well aware that Korea is a major producer. We can all name a number of titles developed there, and probably at least a couple of leading publishers and/or developers. That said, it’s pretty safe to assume that few of us are closely familiar with the industry there. So you might find that this list of the five releases I feel have had the greatest impact on the global landscape includes one or more you wouldn’t expect.
