Finding success in a fighting game, whether it be in a random online game or a local major, can be a rather emotional experience. However, it’s hard to ignore that the Evolution Championship Series, representing our community’s largest tournament year after year, places a unique pressure on its participants, especially those with tangible aspirations of reaching finals on Sunday.
That’s why both of the videos below are so powerful. The Black Eye’s Nicolas “Kane Blueriver” Gonzalez and Juan “Hungrybox” Debiedma of Team Liquid, neither strangers to tournament victories, were caught on camera by the fine folks at Hold Back to Block qualifying for top eight at Evo 2015 last month. After long hours of competition, both finally reach that final level in their respective titles, and the emotions on display are absolutely no surprise as they can finally have a chance to catch their breath.
