Churning the Butter #48 feat. Ultra Street Fighter IV Streaming Live from San Francisco, California

The folks behind Churning the Butter have just gone live with another installment of their weekly tournament series.

Tonight, they have once again taken over Folsom Street Foundry in San Francisco, California to put on an Ultra Street Fighter IV tournament for the regional players. Some of the competitors you can expect to see in attendance tonight include EG|Ricki Ortiz, Julio, pH|El Cubano Loco, pH|LPN, G-Dragon, and more.

Rising Thunder Patch Adds New Variant for Crow, Fixes More Bugs

Another week means another Rising Thunder patch. The developers have continually updated their game to add content and remove bugs, and the latest changes are more of the same.

As far as variants go, Crow is now able to utilize Riposte (pictured above), a parry that can transition into a forward dash, a backdash, or a neutral jump when hit. A full look at this patch’s adjustments can be found below.

Rising Thunder Patch Notes, Build 1372

Crow

  • New S3 variant! Activating Riposte sends Crow into an armored parry pose. If he is struck in this pose, he can go either into a forward dash (F+S3), a backdash (B+S3), or a neutral jump (S3 with no direction pressed).

Dev Notes: If Crow has excellent timing and Ripostes the opponent’s move within the first 5 frames of his activation, he can cut the Riposte’s cooldown in half.

  • Devil’s Halo no longer defaults to the neutral version after tapping F+S1 or B+S1.

Dev Notes: Kinetic-canceling the directional versions should now be easier to perform. This was simply an input buffer bug that took longer than expected to track down and fix.

Dauntless

  • Reduced charged Piston Tremor recovery by 1 frame.

Dev Notes: This minor change is intended to make certain charged Piston Tremor followups slightly easier. It shouldn’t impact matchups otherwise.

  • Overdrive now resets the juggle count when it hits airborne opponents.

Dev Notes: Dauntless isn’t meant to have easy juggle combos into full Overdrive, but having it connect once after a juggle combo felt unnecessarily weak. With this change, it’s still preferable to save her OD meter for ground combos, but she can generate a little extra damage at the end of certain juggles too.

Talos

  • Reduced Overdrive active frames from 3 to 2.

Dev Notes: Colossal Crush is meant to have some anti-air capability, but we felt the timing was slightly too lenient. This change makes it a little stricter, and less effective against well-timed backdashes.

Bug Fixes

  • Fixed a bug that caused launch reactions to land improperly under certain conditions.
  • Fixed a Talos uncharged S2v1 bug that caused extreme corner pushback under certain conditions.
  • Kinetic-canceling Talos’ S3 clothesline ender should no longer negate his dash velocity.
  • Zib is furious and crushed that his ZPE collar prototype has been stolen. Who wouldn’t want the world to be a better place?!

Visual Improvements

  • New launch reaction for Dauntless’ charged Piston Tremor and Edge’s fully charged Reckless Lightning, to differentiate them further from uncharged versions.
  • Comprehensive polish pass on nearly all air reactions.

UDON’s ‘The Life and Death(s) of Charlie Nash’ Graphic Novel Now Available Online

When Charlie Nash was revealed to be returning to the Street Fighter franchise, folks immediately began to formulate theories regarding his resurrection. The last time we saw him in action, the American soldier sacrificed himself to stop Shadaloo leader M. Bison in Street Fighter Alpha 3, and his grotesque new appearance and altered personality in Street Fighter V came as quite a shock.

To help fill the gaps, Capcom partnered with UDON Entertainment to release The Life and Death(s) of Charlie Nash, a graphic novel compilation of previous stories with an emphasis on the events leading up to Nash’s return in Street Fighter V. While much of the narrative included within might be old hat for long-time fans of the franchise, the surrounding story answers some of the lingering questions about his revival.

While this book was previously a convention exclusive, it can now be purchased through online comic distributor comiXology for $4.99. Please note that this is a digital book, not a physical one, so don’t expect it to appear on your doorstep any time soon. We’ve included a few of the opening pages below to get you started.

Rewired Looks to Bring Large-Scale Competition Back to Arizona in November

Despite being home to some exceptional competitors, Arizona has seen a dearth of major tournaments in recent years. Undefeated in the Southwest sought to change that with its sophomore effort earlier this year, and now Rewired 2015 is stepping up to the plate as well.

Organized by Nicholas “Driftwood” Going and Justin “JBVH” Bruce Van Horne, Rewired is looking to put on the largest tournament the state has seen since 2011’s Devastation. While not boasting a lineup comparable to larger American events, they’ve still made the effort to include a wide variety of sub-genres with Ultra Street Fighter IV, Ultimate Marvel vs. Capcom 3, Killer Instinct, Super Smash Bros. Melee, and Project M. A side tournament has also been organized for airdasher favorite Guilty Gear Xrd -SIGN-.

And for those of you looking to earn some dough, there will be over $1000 in pot bonuses spread across the titles listed above.

Rewired 2015 is scheduled for November 14-15 in Tucson, Arizona. More details can be found in the trailer below as well as their official website.
