Northeast Championships 16 Receives $10,000 Pot Bonus for Mortal Kombat X

Eric “Big E” Small announced yesterday that Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment and NetherRealm Studios have decided to drop $10,000 into Northeast Championship 16’s Mortal Kombat X. While this is far from the only pot bonus heading the tournament’s way, it’s the largest by a fair margin. Their generous contribution pushes the end-of-year event’s total prize pools to over $20,000 across all titles.

While a handful of games did receive hard caps for their entry numbers last month, Mortal Kombat X was not affected. Hopefully this big cash prize will be enough motivation to draw out fatality fans from around the country, and perhaps the world.

Northeast Championships 16 is scheduled for December 11-13 in Essington, Pennsylvania. More information can be found through their official website.

Capcom’s Matt Dahlgren Talks Street Fighter III Characters in Street Fighter V

With a series as storied as Street Fighter, making sure to represent a wide array of characters in each installment while still moving forward with brand new content has got to be a major headache. Capcom marketing manager Matt Dahlgren commented on this unique problem with regards to Street Fighter V during a recent interview conducted by Fight Your Rival at last weekend’s New York Comic Con.

While we’ve seen Alpha characters like Birdie and Karin revived for the upcoming title, Dahlgren was specifically asked to address Street Fighter III fans who may be feeling a little underwhelmed with the current cast.

“We will get there,” he explained. “All of the different iterations will appear in Street Fighter V, just give us a little bit more time. I’m pretty sure they’re gonna be pretty happy.” Dahlgren would go on to admit that it was probably a bit of an oversight to not feature any Street Fighter III characters in the initial roster.

Previous leaks stated that both Alex and Urien would appear as playable characters in Street Fighter V, and the former even appears in the recently unveiled ‘City in Chaos’ stage. Executive producer Yoshinori Ono also made sure to mention Alex during his presentation at the same convention, saying that he has taken note of the grappler’s popularity within the community.
