Brennan Ward would just as soon forget 2014. After starting his career 9-1, he dropped consecutive fights, leaving some to wonder whether or not he had hit his ceiling as a mixed martial artist.

Newly created Japanese mixed martial arts promotion Rizin Fighting Federation announced late Thursday the signing of another fighter. Rizin Chairman Nobuyuki Sakakibara and General Manager Nobuhiko Takada held a press conference to announce that the company has signed former sumo wrestler Kaido Hoovelson.

The Pechanga Resort in Temecula, Calif., will play host to Lion Fight 25 Friday night and the card, which will air live on AXS TV 10 p.m. ET/7 p.m. PT. Anchored by the super middleweight championship between John Wayne Parr and Cosmo Alexandre, the entire event will go on as planned as all the fighters on the main card made weight Thursday afternoon.
