‘Cultivation’ to Document Darryl “Snake Eyez” Lewis’ Journey to Capcom Cup 2015

While names like Justin Wong and Daigo Umehara have become synonymous with high-level fighting game competition thanks to their decades of prominence, a relatively fresh face has risen through the ranks to carve out a space of his own. Darryl “Snake Eyez” Lewis has captivated the community with his intense Zangief play over the years, and now, thanks to his sponsorship with Red Bull and an all but certain spot in the Capcom Cup grand finals, he’s ready to prove what hard work can achieve.

Cultivation is a brand new venture from the folks at Red Bull that focuses on the training necessary to become a successful competitive gamer. Starting with House of Snake Eyez, this documentary series will zero in on Lewis’ journey to Capcom Cup, which saw him travel from the United States to Japan as he sought to level up his skills and secure a portion of the largest fighting game prize pool of all time.

Red Bull unveiled their plans for this series at Canada Cup this past weekend, offering up just the briefest teaser to whet the community’s appetite before its official premiere. We’ve included this trailer below if you missed out before.

Cultivation: House of Snake Eyez is scheduled to debut next Tuesday, November 10, with new episodes available on a weekly basis leading up to Capcom Cup.

SNK Playmore Leaves Pachislot Business, Plans to Step Up Game Development

Rejoice! The fine folks of SNK Playmore have announced that they will be leaving the pachislot business behind to redouble their efforts in the realm of game development.

According to Kotaku, the official press release cites “uncertainty” as their key impetus for ditching the gambling machines. While further details weren’t provided, this move is likely the first push towards the Marvel-like property expansion mentioned by the company’s new Chinese owners after its acquisition.

SNK Playmore is currently focused on releasing King of Fighters XIV, the long-awaited return of their storied fighting franchise, on PlayStation 4 sometime next year. What else this shift in policy holds for their other properties remains to be seen, so stay tuned for more details.

Capcom Shares Their Favorite Moments from Canada Cup’s Ridiculous Ultra Street Fighter IV Finals

While not the most stacked tournament Capcom Pro Tour has seen, this year’s Canada Cup definitely had the most on the line. As one of the last few outright Capcom Cup qualifiers, players from across the world descended on Toronto, Ontario for one final shot at a spot in the grand finals in December.

As you would guess, this provided more than a few intense moments during the Ultra Street Fighter IV competition, and Capcom has compiled their five favorites into another recap video. Below, you’ll see a bit of nasty Elena play from Evil Geniuses’ Justin Wong, ridiculous comebacks by Tokido of Mad Catz and Razer’s Fuudo, and a whole lot more.
