BlazBlue: Central Fiction Coming to North American PS3 and PS4 Consoles this Winter
While BlazBlue: Central Fiction has had plenty of time to make a name for itself in Japan, audiences outside of the country have been left wondering when the game would finally make its way to North America. In a recent post on the official PlayStation Blog, we learned that the title is headed west later this year.
The console version of the game is set to ship with over thirty characters and sixty stages spanning standard Story, Arcade, and VS Modes, as well as the more nuanced Grim of Abyss, Score Attack and Speed Star Modes.
According to Gematsu, Aksys Games revealed a short list of additional features during their MomoCon panel. These features are as follows:
- Revamped user interface: completely redesigned and more intuitive.
- Brand new story: a massive single-palyer experience.
- New battle systems: “Exceed Accel” and “Active Flow.”
- Five new characters: Hibiki=Kohaku (technical-type), Naoto (aggressive standard-type), and more.
- New levels and level variations.
- “Alliance Mode” team construction mode.
- “Item Shop Mode” where you use currency earned in-game to buy loot.
- “Speed Star Mode” where you try to defeat CPU opponents within a specified time limit.
While no exact date has been announced, we do know that this latest entry in the long-running BlazBlue series will be making its way to North American PlayStation 3 and PlayStation 4 systems by the end of 2016.

Devolver Digital Shares Trailer for Absolver, an Upcoming Online Brawler
Devolver Digital, the publisher best known for Hotline Miami and Enter the Gungeon, have announced their first foray into the fighting genre with Absolver, the debut game from French studio Sloclap.
Details are relatively slim on the ground but, from the looks of the first trailer, Absolver combines an attractive sharp-edged visual style with fist-to-fist combat reminiscent of Tekken and Soulcalibur.
According to the official site, Absolver will be an online game that places you in the shoes of a young fighter who travels the world, learning all new styles of combat and keeping the peace. You’ll be able to customize your character’s fighting style along with their look, and team up with friends to engage in 1-on-1 or 3-on-3 battles. There’s set to be both PvE and PvP modes, so you can no doubt duke it out with friends and enemies alike.
At the moment, we’re not quite sure that this is going to be a fighting game in the traditional sense, but we’ve seen something like it before in Mortal Kombat: Deception’s Konquest mode. However it turns out, it definitely looks like Absolver is one to watch right now.

Check Out Some Early Kum Haehyun Tech in Guilty Gear Xrd -REVELATOR-
The Japanese version of Guilty Gear Xrd -REVELATOR- just came out, and although we’ve had access to a demo version for over a month, players around the world quickly got to work on the two new console-exclusive characters.
Kum Haehyun is an unusual character for the anime game, since she doesn’t utilize the gatling system for chaining normals like other characters do. The robot, actually controlled by a Korean heiress from the inside, has links and many chargeable moves, as well as a controllable projectile. It wouldn’t be an ArcSys character without some deeper tech under the surface, and short clips quickly began surfacing on Twitter.

Killer Instinct at Combo Breaker May Have To Be Played on Patch 3.1.5
In an unfortunate turn of events–relayed through the Combo Breaker Twitter account–Killer Instinct players may have to play their games on the latest patch, complete with all of the balance changes which the public have not had a chance to experiment with yet. According to the Combo Breaker Twitter and tournament organizer Rick “TheHadou” Thiher, this complication was supposedly meant to be avoided through the use of offline boxes and accounts, but they do not seem to have worked, as characters cannot be loaded properly on the unpatched systems.
This issue is still developing, so the Combo Breaker setups may still be salvaged. If not, players better bone up on all of the patch 3.1.5 details, which you can read about here.
Gargos will of course be banned over the weekend, and we hope that this issue is sorted before the tournament begins.

Use Assists to Stop Shadow Mewtwo’s Vortex in Pokkén Tournament
IG|Nightshade took the time to shed some light on one of Pokkén Tournament’s most powerful moves: Shadow Mewtwo’s Vortex. Performed by using X to cancel his Psywave, this move is considered a counter, pierces other counters, jumps, does good chip, hits the top of the screen vertically, and is safe on block. It’s hard to have a better grab bag of good properties.
As Nightshade demonstrated on his stream recently, however, the move can still be challenged on wakeup by the full cast, so long as you are prepared with the right assist. He spends a good 40 minutes testing various supports and theorizing the effects of each, but some of the most notable examples include:
- Ninetails’ Will O’ Wisp – This arguably underused Disrupt posses invincibility, causes an attack decrease, and breaks the counter property of Vortex.
- Magneton’s Tri Attack – Though the defender’s armor will get pierced by Vortex, Magneton will still shoot Shadow Mewtwo out of the sky, scoring greater damage and two status debuffs.
- Rotom’s Thunder Shock – This fast charging, popular anti-jump disrupt cleanly knocks Shadow Mewtwo out of the air, but provides no defense for the user. There will almost always be a trade that results in both Pokémon crumpling to the floor.
- Magikarp – Vortex cannot stop falling fish.
The versatility that assists provide, combined with the fragile lifebar of Shadow Mewtwo, can mean a lot more risk than many may realize for the edgier Mewtwo.
