Ibuki’s Legality at Evolution 2016’s Street Fighter V Tournament Clarified

With the news of Ibuki’s delay, folks have been wondering if she’ll be legal at Evolution 2016’s Street Fighter V tournament. After all, it takes time for any new character’s effect on the metagame to fully develop.

In response to one of these inquiries, Evolution co-founder Joey “Mr. Wizard” Cuellar tweeted the following:


He further clarified by restating Evolution’s rule on downloadable characters, saying that they need to be in the game 4 to 5 weeks before Evolution for them to be legal at the event.


While we don’t know the exact date Ibuki will hit Street Fighter V, Capcom has already stated that she is coming with the cinematic story expansion at the end of the month. With this in mind, it’s highly likely that Ibuki will not be tournament legal at Evolution 2016, but we can hope.

It’s Official: Super Smash Bros. for Wii U at Evolution 2016 is the Biggest Smash Tournament Ever

Over the last few years the Evolution Championship Series has proved itself a marquee event on the Super Smash Bros. calendar. Since Super Smash Bros. Melee returned to the Evo roster in 2013, signups have grown year after year. EVO 2013 may have been the biggest tournament of the Smash Bros. year with 709 entrants, but that pales in comparison to Evo 2015’s huge numbers of 1,926 entrants for Smash 4 and 1,869 entrants for Melee.

We already know that Evolution 2016 is breaking records left, right and center; after all, there are already more than 3000 entrants for Street Fighter V and over 1000 for Pokkén Tournament’s first appearance on the Evo roster. But those aren’t the only records being shattered, as news surfaced last night that yet another has been broken: Evo 2016 will be the biggest Super Smash Bros. for Wii U tournament of all time.

With a month of signups to go and at least 1,927 players already signed up, it looks like there is every chance that the 2,000 player barrier will be broken for the very first time.

General: ‘Ridiculous to Dedicate an Entire Room to VR Gaming’

Take-Two CEO Strauss Zelnick, speaking at the Cowen & Company Technology, Media and Telecom Conference, has said that there are too many impediments to VR gaming in the current state of the world and that it’s “ridiculous to think the average home in America would dedicate an entire room to VR gaming”.
