General: KickStarter Fatigue is Real – 2016 Dismal for Games

KickStarter fatigue is a real thing, at least when it comes to funding forthcoming games. In the first half of 2015, backers pledged over $20M and slightly more than that in the second half of 2015. In the first half of 2016, backers pledged only $8.2M, less than half of either half of 2015.

New Pokémon for Pokkén Tournament to be Revealed on July 14

Street Fighter V isn’t the only game getting new characters this July. The official Pokkén Tournament Twitter account recently announced that a new Pokémon will soon be making its way to the arcade version of Pokkén Tournament.

The new playable Pokémon, which is set to be revealed on July 14, will be part of an update coming to the arcade version of the game on July 20.

The Numbers Are In! Check Out the Final Registration Counts for Evo 2016

Now that registration for Evo 2016 has officially closed, Joey “Mr. Wizard” Cuellar was able to give fighting fans an idea of just how many competitors will be making their way to Vegas for this month’s competition. The final numbers definitely impress; here’s a full breakdown:

  • Street Fighter V: 5065
  • Super Smash Bros. for Wii U: 2637
  • Super Smash Bros. Melee: 2350
  • Pokkén Tournament: 1165
  • Guilty Gear Xrd: 903
  • Ultimate Marvel vs. Capcom 3: 770
  • Mortal Kombat X: 707
  • Tekken 7: 543
  • Killer Instinct: 540

Anyone who finds themselves in the losers bracket early–especially in Street Fighter V–will have quite a battle ahead of them, to say the least. Evo is set to take place July 15-17 in Las Vegas, Nevada.

Street Fighter V to Be Televised Live on ESPN2 from Evo 2016

Anyone who has kept an eye on registration numbers knows that Evo 2016 has already broken more than its share of records. Those records include Street Fighter V surpassing all historical registration highs in a single game in a matter of four days.

This incredible number of competitors eager to show their skill at Capcom’s latest offering is a testament to how much the fighting game community has grown in recent years, and how much potential growth still stands to be seen. And while such a massive turnout is certainly exciting in its own right, we’re proud to announce that Evo 2016 will not only be showcasing the largest gathering of fighting game competition on record, it will also be reaching an incredible number of viewers.

On Sunday, July 17, ESPN2 is set to televise Evo’s Street Fighter V World Championship live from the Mandalay Bay Events Center in Las Vegas. Coverage for the event will begin at 7 PM PDT (10 PM EDT).

John Lasker, vice president of programming and acquisitions at ESPN Digital Media said, “The Street Fighter V World Championship will be one of the must-see competitions from the Evo finals. We are always exploring ways to serve the growing and passionate audience of competitive gaming, and we look forward to delivering this exciting event to fans.”

Regarding this partnership, Chief Executive Officer of Evo, Joey “Mr. Wizard” Cuellar, said, “Evo is ecstatic to be able to have a wider audience share in the energy and excitement of our Street Fighter world finals.”
