There’s a little movie getting a big push at film festivals around the globe, and it just happens to be about something close to the heart of our scene. “The Lost Arcade,” arising from a kickstarter in 2011, is an affectionate documentary about Chinatown Fair. It’s not the first documentary to try and capture the storied arcade’s magic and significance, but it could be the most ambitious.

The trailer is filled with crowded, energetic shots of the arcade intermixed with personal recollection. It’s awash with a loud, glitchy, beeping soundtrack from Gil Talmi. The movie seems to be crossing over well outside of our scene, too: SFGate and Independent Magazine have taken notice, at least.

The above trailer dropped in July; IGN just recently shared an exclusive interview clip of one of it’s patrons, Anthony. He takes a drag on his cigarette, and then goes through some photos of arcade goers: the games they played, and the impressions they made on him.

Coming off of a successful showing at The Roxie in San Francisco, The Lost Arcade will be playing at the Metrograph from August 12th-18th, 2016.

Forget questioning whether or not Smash Bros. is esports, Super Smash Bros. for Wii U is going to the Olympics–as one of the main games in the Rio 2016 eGames Showcase, alongside the god-flavored MOBA Smite.

Smash 4 players from around the world will be jetting to Rio to take part, including American representative Larry “Larry Lurr” Holland, Canadian Evo 2016 Champion Elliot “Ally” Cardoza-Oyarce and Mexico’s Smash prodigy Leonardo “MK Leo” Lopez.

They’ll be showing off their skills in a series of showcase matches–which will be streamed for those of us not in Brazil–with full commentary and post-match analysis from the duo Richard “Keitaro” King Jr. and Maximillian “Max Ketchum” Krchmar. There’s no prize money on the line though–everyone will be playing for national pride.

To see all the best Smash action the respective countries have to offer, tune in on Tuesday, August 16. The show starts at 11:00 AM local time–make sure to cheer on your champion.
