Rising Up, Part One: Street Fighter V’s Basic Controls & Mechanics, feat. Bafael
Hello, and welcome to another episode of Rising Up. As you may recall, I’ve partnered with Shoryuken.com to create an instructional series on YouTube, focusing on getting new players into Street Fighter V. This series is focused on reaching a level of competitive play without any prior fighting game experience. As I’ve said, I think the most important goal of the FGC as a whole is to expand its player base.
As the previous video was merely an intro and outline to the series, this video marks the first formal episode, and describes the various components of controlling a character in SFV. I go over normals, command normals, special moves, EX moves, Critical Arts, V-skills, V-triggers, blocking, V-reversals, quickstanding, counter hits, throws, and stun, briefly describing the basic mechanics of each. I understand that if you’re here on Shoryuken.com videos like this may be too basic to help you; if that is the case, I ask instead that you consider showing your friends this series when they ask how to get into fighting games. It also serves as a decent crash course for those competitive fighting game players who have never played Street Fighter, for example if they have focused on 3D fighting games or the Super Smash Bros. series.
There’s a lot of general theory in this video with very little instruction on how to create a functional game plan; creating that game plan for each player is my goal for part two of the series, coming soon.
Remember to subscribe to the channel and keep an eye out for future updates!
