MagicScrumpy Takes a Shot at Making Roy Viable in Super Smash Bros. Melee

Fighting games naturally have characters that are better than others. It’s the nature of the beast. However, the difference can be surmountable with human effort while sometimes, a character is just too bad to be competitively viable. One such character is Roy, who currently is considered on the Melee Tier list as 20th of 26.

Considering this, modder and YouTuber MagicScrumpy tried his hand at fixing some of Roy’s problems to help him actually compete at a higher level. He’s previously made the Ultimate Spacie, combining Fox and Falco’s movesets to create the best character in Melee, so let’s see how he does in making a bad character a bit better.

Veteran Jam Player Teresa Takes on Ramlethal Specialist Kakkou in Jonio’s Latest “Slash Series” Exhibition

One of the good things about bringing characters back in new installments of fighting games is seeing character specialists move onto the latest addition, bring all of their knowledge and skill with them. One such player was  Teresa, known as one of Japan’s strongest Jam Kuradoberi players in Guilty Gear XX. Teresa has recently made the jump to Guilty Gear Xrd -REVELATOR- now that Jam is in game and his return is the focus of one of Jonio’s Slash Series exhibitions for Guilty Gear Xrd -REVELATOR-.

Facing him is yet another character specialist in the form of Kakkou, who has stuck with Ramlethal even through her nerfs, making a name as one of the character’s premier players. In a way, this exhibition match represents the coming together of character specialists from two “generations” – one coming from an older game taking up their old character, and the other having made their name on a character introduced in the current game.  Check out the exhibition match below.

Decipher the Mystery of the Aerial Input Lock, Thanks to the Beefy Smash Doods

Acting as one of the prime tech researchers in the world of Smash 4, the Beefy Smash Doods have set their sights on a quirk with Smash 4’s input buffering system, which they called the ‘Aerial Input Lock’. Most easily observed with Yoshi’s Egg Lay move, players have noticed that despite mashing a certain aerial while encased in the egg, their character seem to perform a different aerial upon busting out of the shell.

In the video, Risuno of the Beefy Smash Doods explains that if a player continues to mash the attack button while in the egg, they essentially lock their character’s input until they stop hammering the attack button. So if you accidentally pressed down and A as your first input upon entering the Egg Lay animation yet you wanted to do an up air instead, you could only reset the lock until you stop pushing the A button and allowed the game to register a fresh new input.

So, to stop this locking of inputs, all you really have to do is press your desired attack input once. That’s all there is to it. While this sounds like an incredibly niche bit of information, this Aerial Input Lock doesn’t just apply to Yoshi’s Egg Lay. It actually applies to every single animation in the game where you must wait before your character can act again. This includes aerials, air dodges, specials and even hit stun. This information explains many complaints players have of the game ‘eating’ their inputs and not doing the move they desire – it’s probably because you were frantically mashing A. Make sure to check out the video to see the possible applications of the Aerial Input Lock and how being aware of it can help diagnose why you SDed or dropping that crucial combo.
