Should You Upgrade to PS4 Pro for Your Fighting Games? No, According to Maximilian
Sony has recently revealed the future of the PlayStation 4 console in the unveiling of the much-expected slim PlayStation 4, and the more interesting PlayStation 4 Pro–that powered-up PS4 “Neo” that we;ve been hearing about for quite a while. PS4 firmware update 4.00 has just gone live, and it not-so-coincidentally includes a transfer utility to make it that much easier to move your games and data over to a shiny new PS4 Pro. But the question is: if fighting games are your focus on the console, is there any benefit to dropping cash on the beefy new machine?
As Maximilian discusses in the video below, basically: no. When you factor in that the upgrades are primarily visual–and that for fighting games to work properly the frame rates need to be standardized, and many high-end 4K displays may still suffer latency issues–there’s not really any incentive for fighters to make the switch, at least not yet. Next year’s biggest releases–namely Tekken 7: Fated Retribution and Injustice 2–have not yet indicated they will take advantage of any visual upgrade the PS4 can provide.
Of course, the advantages to other genres may be well worth your while if that’s your bag; Maximilian also talks about some of the upcoming games he’s looking forward to that will indeed benefit from the graphical boost.
