Trouble at EGLX in Cultivation Leffen: Resurrection Episode 4: “Relapse”

Continuing their series exploring Team SoloMid’s William “Leffen” Hjelte’s experiences within the FGC, Red Bull TV has released the fourth episode of Cultivation Leffen: Resurrection, entitled: Relapse.

This episode reveals Leffen’s pivotal careeer moment: Leffen falters at EGLX, letting his emotions run out of control with a dramatic walk-off forfeit that forces him to settle for a disappointing 7th place. During his poor performance and less-than-impressive sportsmanship, Leffen’s opponents are thus conflicted by their enjoyment of the return of the “God-Slayer.” Leffen’s weaknesses are exposed, and his true nature expressed succinctly by a rival: “Everybody loves a villain.”

Punish Certain Spikes in Super Smash Bros. for Wii U via Grounded Spike Cancelling, as Explained by the Beefy Smash Doods

New tech feels like it is appearing every other week in Smash 4, with the current tech du jour being Grounded Spike Cancelling or GSC for short. First discovered by Flynn CL, documented by ESAM, and now covered by the Beefy Smash Doods, this technique allows players to cancel the grounded tech animation of a spike, so you can then punish with your own move.

To cancel the spike, you have to SDI upwards as soon as you get hit by the move, before then hitting the shield button to tech the floor. If done correctly, your character should bypass the tech animation and be able to strike back very quickly. You can also SDI to the side if you are placed on a ledge or platform, meaning you can follow up with an aerial after using GSC. Do note that GSC does not apply to untechable moves like Ganondorf’s or Megaman’s down air, as well as if you are already in a knockdown state.

Much like doing a footstool out of shield, GSC is a great situational technique which can net you a decent punish off of an opponent either doing a panic on stage spike, a Samus player using up-tilt or against a Peach player spamming down-tilt, as you can pop back up and strike back against your opponent very quickly. Consider adding Grounded Spike Cancelling into your defensive repertoire.

Logan Sama and TheStreetWriter Break Down Street Fighter V’s Urien in This Special WSO Session Ahead of His Release

Street Fighter players are foaming at the mouth in anticipation as the master of the Aegis Reflector is ready to launch in the long awaited September 22 update. To that end, last night saw WSO regulars Logan Sama and TheStreetWriter hosting a detailed breakdown of the final release version of Urien, which may have had some changes since the version seen in the General Story Mode of Street Fighter V.

The only caveats of the stream were that we could not see Urien’s exact damage output or his Premium costume, but everything else was fair game. After about 30 minutes of analysis and checking out his moves and their properties, the two spend the rest of the stream playing some games to see if Urien still holds up against the current roster of Street Fighter V.
