Evo Now Under New Parent Company, Expect Big News January 2017

Amidst the Evo Japan news being revealed at the Tokyo Game Show over the past few days, one important aspect of Evo’s future has come to light: going forward, Evo will be operating under a new parent corporation called Triple Perfect Inc. instead of SRKX Productions.

Joey Cuellar and Mark Julio are presently discussing and promoting Evo Japan at the Tokyo Game Show, and the target date of January 2018 has been announced for the first-ever event. A pre-Evo Japan event is planned for sometime in 2017, with details still to be announced in the future as they are finalized. As for Evo Japan itself, the plan is to bring the successful Evo formula from Las Vegas across to Japan–while noting that the Japanese FGC in particular will open up opportunities to feature games that are more popular in Japan as opposed to North America, such as the Virtua Fighter series–but attendees can expect similar vendors and BYOC areas, in addition to possible new novice training/play areas, and new cosplay events.

Mr. Wizard has also teased a big Evo secret that nobody knows yet, to be revealed in January when more Evolution 2017 information is released. It is also the hope to have Evo Japan’s final dates locked down by that time. As Evo continues to expand and engage the fighting game community in North America and Japan, the future of the event–on both sides of the Pacific–looks bright!

Watch Sakura Chase Her Idol Through the Street Fighter Series in This Video History

She started in Street Fighter Alpha 2 as a plucky schoolgirl with an incredible fascination with Ryu; starting by copying his moves (with her own modifications), her pursuit of her idol and eventual mentor has grown into a heartwarming and essential aspect of Street Fighter’s lore. Calling Sakura Kasugano a fan-favorite is a bit of an understatement: her earnest dedication to improving her fighting skill just makes you want to root for her!

This new video from XusesGB charts her progress from the Street Fighter Alpha series into the super-kawaii Super Puzzle Fighter II Turbo and Super Gem Fighter Mini-Mix (AKA Pocket Fighter) games, the Street Fighter EX series, the Marvel crossover games (and the notable appearance of “Dark Sakura” in such) and more, leading into her most recent playable appearances in Street Fighter IV and Street Fighter X Tekken. Oh–and we can’t forget her guest spot in Rival Schools: United by Fate!

Even more than Akuma, Sakura seems a shoo-in for Street Fighter V’s next DLC season, from her story mode appearances–and simply her long-standing rivalry with Karin Kanzuki. We can only wait and see…

Flipside’s alucarD Talks Chun-Li, Strategy, and Street Fighter X Tekken with Red Bull: Casuals

alucarD from Flipside is getting a lot of media attention lately, and it is well-earned. With stellar performances at Absolute Battle, East Coast Throwdown, and Defend the North, Antwan Ortiz has been making a big name for himself on the circuit.

In this interview with Red Bull eSports, alucarD talks about his strategy of picking what maximizes his ability to win. He discusses his favorite competitive game–Street Fighter X Tekken–and he also goes in on Chun-Li in Street Fighter V, saying he is waiting for nerfs and that “Seeing the decline of Chun-Li performances will be comedy to me.” He goes on to talk about his plans while in Japan, saying that he hopes “to represent America properly.”

Kim1234 Walks and Talks With LI Joe in The Jump-In Podcast

With Joe “LI Joe” Ciaramelli in Japan for Tokyo Game Show, Kim1234 caught up with him in Harajuku to conduct an interview for The Jump-In Podcast. LI Joe is one of the most sociable people in the fighting game community, and his extroverted character really shines in this interview.

Over the course of the interview, Joe and Kim1234 talk about his Evo matchup and feelings about Eita, as well as life after Evolution 2016 and potential sponsorships coming his way. They also talk about other things rarely talked about with LI Joe, such as the origins of his tattoos, The King of Fighters XIV, and how he has performed since being in Japan.
