Unsolved Mysteries: Akuma Disappears from Final Boss Battle in This Super Street Fighter II Turbo Glitch

This is Missing Person with a most ironic missing person report: while we know most everything there is to be known about Super Street Fighter II Turbo, there are still a few things that we don’t always see or understand.

Take this for instance. Silentscope was recently playing through the single-player mode on the Japanese version of Super Street Fighter II Turbo. Having triggered the right conditions, he fought Gouki (Akuma) instead of Dictator (M. Bison) for the final boss. However, he said that at around the 10 second mark, Akuma disappeared from the screen. Having lost the round by health deficit when the timer ran out, the game froze. Trying to award the round to Akuma, the game couldn’t–because the character asset was no longer available.

While he admits to playing this via emulator, the fact is that this is a strange glitch, and people within the ST community have yet to conjure up an explanation for Akuma’s untimely disappearance.

So where did Akuma go? That’s a question we hope to answer in the near future.

GRsmash Counts Down 100 of the Best Combos from the Top 100 Melee Players in the World

Sure, we’ve seen tons of impressive-looking combos from some of Super Smash Bros. Melee’s most notable players such as C9|Mango, Alliance|Armada, Tempo|Axe, G2|Westballz, MVG.FOX|Mew2King and EMG|nOne–just to name a few. These players are some of the best in the business when it comes to executing combos with their characters–and at the highest level of play, in various stacked Melee majors, under extreme pressure. When these top players show off the latest combo they’ve discovered and learned to execute in tournament, you can be sure it’ll send live spectators and stream monsters into a ravenous state of excitement and joy.

The players mentioned above aren’t the only ones who pull off these amazing feats of execution. That’s where YouTube user GRsmash comes in, and compiles 100 of the most hype combos and moments from 100 of the highest-ranked Melee players in the world. A lot of the material in this video I haven’t seen before, or didn’t think was possible; especially from the rare Luigi and Samus specialists such as Abate, Duck, PG|Esam and Eddie Mexico. The video lasts a little over 15 minutes, but it’s well worth a watch for any Melee fan looking for some inspiration and entertainment.
