Pre-Cooperation Cup 2017 Streaming Live from Tokyo, Japan

This weekend is Japan’s biggest yearly Street Fighter III tournament, the 15th edition of Cooperation Cup. The 3rd Strike scene continues to show its strength with its largest turnout for the tournament series yet.

The action starts with the Pre-Cooperation Cup, a 5-on-5 team tournament in which same character teams are encouraged (but not required). The following day is the Cooperation Cup 5-on-5 itself, which allows for duplicate characters on teams but requires team compositions of at least three different characters. Both events are broken up into multiple rounds of play, starting with the first and second rounds, which will determine 7 of the 8 finals tournament teams, with the remaining team decided by the playoff rounds.

Each day of the event is scheduled to start at 10:00 AM JST (8:00 PM EST, 5:00 PM PST), with the finals schedule to start around 5:30 PM JST (3:30 AM EST, 12:30 AM PST). For more information on format and schedule, check out this helpful Google doc.

The action starts with the Pre-Cooperation Cup, a 5-on-5 team tournament in which same character teams are encouraged (but not required). The following day is the Cooperation Cup 5-on-5 itself, which allows for duplicate characters on teams but requires team compositions of at least three different characters. Both events are broken up into multiple rounds of play, starting with the first and second rounds, which will determine 7 of the 8 finals tournament teams, with the remaining team decided by the playoff rounds.

Each day of the event is scheduled to start at 10:00 AM JST (8:00 PM EST, 5:00 PM PST), with the finals schedule to start around 5:30 PM JST (3:30 AM EST, 12:30 AM PST). For more information on format and schedule, check out this helpful Google doc.

Wild arcade sightings are nowhere near as common as they once were, making secret niches all the more exciting to happen upon. While the existence of pure arcades are rarer now, Barcades have persisted, and are becoming more popular recently. Barcades are, as their name implies, a combination of a bar and an arcade, helping ensure their livelihood.

Akihabara is one of these, located in Westminster, near the heart of Colorado. You can find details like store hours and reviews on their Yelp page. This arcade is fairly unique in being one of very few, if any, Arcades to house a Skullgirls arcade cabinet.

The cabinet looks to have been imported from Japan, but appears to be playing the English versionof Skullgirls 2nd Encore. It will be receiving the coming patch update, so it is prepared to be played for years to come.

Warm Up Those Chain Guns with This Kilgore Tech Roundup for Killer Instinct

With Kilgore’s recent release, dedicated lab monsters have been putting in some serious work with this decaying robot, trying to make the most out of his unique kit. Most are finding Kilgore to be unintuitive at first, as his damage is not fantastic and his Overheat mechanic requires players to adapt quickly to the reduced range of his gun shots and missiles. However, people are persevering and starting to formulate some clever combos and setplays with this robot.

Japanese Killer Instinct player OGTY has collated a series of unbreakable combos, which make heavy use of Kilgore’s juggle potential, as well as using Light Chain Gun Barrage as an OTG to keep the hits going. All of these combos do require Kilgore to be in Overheat, as well as two bars of Shadow meter, so they may not be the most optimal sequences out there.

Rolly2891 has been experimenting with Kilgore’s Missile setups following a hard knockdown, as well as juggles following an Overheat throw.

LeoFerreis has been experimenting into Kilgore’s ability to punish Shadow moves, by using an Exhaust cancel to buffer a Heavy Chain Gun Assault during the freeze frame. While this does result in not being able to start an Overheat combo, you start a short juggle sequence by following up with Light into Shadow Chain Gun Assault, or even a Shadow Metal Ball recapture at higher spin speeds.

VesperArcade Provides Detailed Breakdown and Demonstration of Ryu’s Changes in Street Fighter V Season Two

With the release of Street Fighter V’s Season Two last month, Akuma, new costumes, and stages were accompanied by a whopping 92 pages of balance changes and character notes that were adjusted within the new patch, as the title saw its first of what is expected to be yearly balance updates as the game ages.

In order to help players further digest and navigate the overall ramifications of these changes safely, VesperArcade has begun a new series where he will cover each of the 22 Season One character’s changelogs individually and in great detail, explaining to viewers exactly how each individual adjustment will impact that fighter’s game, either positively or negatively. He then heads to the Training Room to provide a visual demonstration of some of the new combos and setups each of the World Warrior’s has been newly afforded thanks to these changes. And who better to begin with than the poster boy of the franchise, the Wandering Warrior, Ryu!

After spending time detailing each of his specific adjustments, Vesper provides a final analysis on Ryu’s future prospects in the new Meta. Believing him to be nerfed overall, due to the removal of his throw loops, reduced range on standing light kick, and his general neutral tools being made weaker overall in this new season. However, he also feels that all hope is not completely lost for the character, as his V-Skill, Mind’s Eye, now builds twice as much V-Gauge when successful, meaning he now only requires six successful parries for one bar, and twelve for two, as opposed to needing twelve and a staggering twenty-four parries for a full V-Trigger in Season One; his V-Trigger-cancelable st.HP, that can go into any special or a Critical Art, has greatly improved his combo and damage potential off of simple conversions; his axe kick has become special, Critical Art and V-Trigger-cancelable on both the first and second hits; Solar Plexus Strike is now +8 on hit, allowing for links into his hard normals, as well as it having increased stun on all versions; and his Air Tatsumaki Senpukyaku can now juggle into his Shinku or Denjin Hadoken on hit. In the second video, Vesper demonstrates some of these buffs in action, to give viewers an idea of what he is now capable of in the Heart of Battle. You can catch both videos below.
