Justin Wong Takes On the Philippines’ JR Bata in These Marvel vs. Capcom 2 Sets

While Marvel vs. Capcom 2 is known as “America’s Game” within the fighting game community, the US wasn’t the only country that developed a scene for it. The Philippines also developed a large MvC2 scene during the early 2000s, with many feeling that it could hang with the US. Sadly, sometime in the mid-2000s, arcade owners all agreed to switch the game to its lowest damage settings, a change which effectively meant that the Philippines was playing a different game altogether.

That said, the country’s love for the game has never faltered, and when Justin Wong visited the country again over New Years, an exhibition match was set up between him and the layer widely accepted to be the best MvC2 player in the Philippines: JR Bata.

To make the exhibition more interesting though, it was decided to play two first-to-seven sets, one with the standard settings for the game, and another running “Philippine settings” with lowest damage. This way, both players would have one set with settings that they weren’t familiar with.  The result of this are a couple of nail-bitingly close sets that you can catch below.

Diablo 3 – Anniversary Event Live in NA, Patch Preps for Season 9

Diablo III players have a lot to look forward to with the arrival of the Anniversary Patch, v2.4.3. The anniversary event it a nod back to the original Diablo game with special “retro graphics”, the original game soundtrack and a sixteen level dungeon with nostalgic items including a King’s Sword, the Butcher’s Cleaver and more.

3rd Strike Fans, Don’t Forget to Catch Cooperation Cup This Weekend!

In case you missed the announcement in October, here’s a friendly reminder! Cooperation Cup, Japan’s premiere Street Fighter III: 3rd Strike team tournament, will be running this weekend. Here’s a link to the Twitch stream where the event will run.

Do not forget that Tokyo’s timezone is GMT+9, so if you’re in the US, you will want to be checking in on Saturday!

Curious to know who will be entering? Well, the answer is: everyone. There are 91 five-man teams signed up: if there’s a strong 3rd Strike killer, it’s a safe bet they’ll be there.

Echo Fox Signs Justin Wong, Tokido, Momochi, ChocoBlanka, SonicFox, Scar, and MKLeo

Echo Fox has started off 2017 with a player signing spree, recruiting top players from multiple fighting games. For Street Fighter, Echo Fox now has Justin Wong, Hajime “Tokido” Taniguchi, Yusuke Momochi, and Yuko “ChocoBlanka” Momochi on their roster. To represent them in the world of NRS fighters, Echo Fox has signed arguably the two best players in the scene at the moment, Dominique “SonicFox” McLean and Brad “Scar” Vaughn. As rumored by ESPN back in December, Leonardo “MKLeo” Lopez Perez is acting their first dedicated Super Smash Bros. for Wii U signing and to top it all off, former FGC manager for Evil Geniuses Antonio Javier is coming to manage this all-star team.

Scar’s departure from Panda Global was announced earlier this week, with Justin, Momochi and ChocoBlanka jumping ship from Evil Geniuses to join Echo Fox. Speaking to Yahoo Esports, Justin stated this move to Echo Fox may actually cause him to take up professional gaming full time, due to the masses of support Echo Fox is hoping to provide to their new signings–not to mention Wong’s management deal with Mark Julio.

This mass signing will no doubt act as a boot up the backside of other esports teams to start signing top-level free agents before organizations like Echo Fox snap everyone up. Shoryuken wishes all the best to these players under their new banner.
