Tekken 7 Will Be Released on June 2nd 2017

Along with a brand new Rage and Sorrow Story Trailer, Bandai Namco Europe have announced that Tekken 7 will be released for home consoles on June 2nd 2017.

This comes directly contrary to earlier statements that the game would be releasing in “Early 2017”, and means that the original version will have been present in Japanese arcades for more than two years before home gamers get their hands on it.

The trailer also confirms the existence of a special Collectors edition of Tekken 7, which includes a “Unique Game Mode, Special Character and Exclusive costumes”, alongside a steelbook, soundtrack and a figure featuring Kazuya and Heihachi.

Rivals of Aether Becomes Available for Purchase on Steam on March 28th

The Super Smash Bros. series has been such a successful community and tournament scene that it’s begun spawning similarly-themed games, much like Street Fighter II kickstarted the genre back in the early 90s. One of those games–Rivals of Aether–has been particularly popular with Smash players. Though the game has been long playable through Early Access, the finalized retail product is just about ready for distribution on Steam.

This trailer showcases the game itself, along with all the features that come with; some of these features include custom color palettes, abyss mode, replays, and all the other expected amenities of fighting games such as tutorials, story mode, and practice mode. The game will be fully available on March 28th, so mark your calendars to get in on this new fighter.

Is Super Smash Bros. Melee Approaching the Fabled “20XX” — A Point Where the Game Can’t Evolve Anymore?

Super Smash Bros. Melee is one of the more technical fighting games out there. The game has been refined to such an amazing level of mechanical skill at its highest level, that it’s nearly unrecognizable as the game it started out as. This tendency for the game to evolve with the players has led some to talk about the fabled “20xx” scenario, where the game evolves to its highest level, Fox emerges as the best, and everyone at the top uses him exclusively.

This end-of-days scenario is discussed at length in the latest SSBM Tutorials video; they cover the basic concept, where it came from, and whether or not such an eventuality ever could come to pass. It covers the current state of the meta, regional and national placements, and the top players in the game right now–so this is a good chance to catch up on where the community is at, as far as evolving their game right now.

Yahoo! Esports Kicks Off “Conversations and Fireballs” Series with Alex Myers Interview

Michael Martin of Yahoo! Esports has been one of the biggest sounding-boards for competitive fighting games in mainstream media over the last year. Because of his tireless effort on reporting and interviews this year, there has been more mainstream attention in the FGC than ever before.

With that momentum, he has created a series called “Conversations and Fireballs,” which gives the top players a platform to talk about anything they feel needs to be said about the FGC. In the first episode, he talked with Alex Myers about the state of Street Fighter V. Myers had some choice things to say and some advice for Capcom, believing that a lot of top players are only playing the game for money and the Capcom Pro Tour.
