Learn the Differences Between NTSC and PAL Versions of Super Smash Bros. Melee
A long time ago, there wasn’t a universal standard of televisions display. Thus if you were playing on a CRT display, you were at the whim of whatever regional standard was in use. While Japan and North America shared the same standard with NTSC, Europe and Australia used PAL. These two standards required changes to the games to make them work at the same speed, and sometimes various things in games would work differently.
Super Smash Bros. Melee was no exception from this rule. Despite players like Armada and Leffen being able to come to the United States and outshine North America’s best, they learned on an entirely different version of the game. As players play in both Europe and North America, they have to account for the changes between versions. If you are planning on attending a tournament outside of the United States, you might want to understand some of the differences between the versions as outlined in this video.

blackSNAKE Faces Destin and Sym Fights BjornSonOfBear in the First SSXrdEL Exhibition Sets
Inspired by the many FT10 that happen on Joniosan’s Japanese streams, American players organized the Super Steam Xrd Exhibition League. Primarily thanks to improved online connections on the PC platform, it’s easier than before to organize matches between players from different parts of the country, as well as stream them for others to see.
The first set of the weekly FT7 series, we have blackSNAKE’s Venom vs. Destin’s Dizzy. Later on, Sym’s Millia fights BjornSonOfBear’s speedy ninja Chipp. The two commentators, TheBeautifulDude and DaiAndOh, provide commentary for the fight, first bringing up a lot of the background on the participants. It’s definitely valuable time spent watching the highly-skilled players duke it out while listening to some insight and discussion.
This was a first weekly special set, and every week will repeat the event with rotating commentators and a “mid-level undercard match” alongside high-level players.
