– Mass Effect Andromeda Isn?t As Bad As You?ve Heard

Mass Effect: Andromeda came in hot and landed in a cloud of disappointment… or some would have you believe. Others shout from the hilltops that it’s a failure, as bad as a Mass Effect could possibly be, that it’s the Arkham Origins of the Mass Effect universe. We’ve come to a place where the power of expectation and Twitter group think leads us to believe that a 76 on Metacritic is a failure. This week in the RPG Files, we take a Twitter break and try to see things like they really are.

The SRK Rollback: Best of March 24-30, 2017

Welcome to the Rollback: a frame-by-frame look back at our past week’s most notable news–and our favorite SRK articles–from March 24 to March 30, 2017!

Zavian “mushin_Z” Sildra, Editor-in-Chief:

Frame 1:
Byron TaylorHas Byron Taylor been “leaked” as the next DLC character for Street Fighter V?

… Probably not? But still… maybe? This leak-that-wasn’t-a-leak set the Street Fighter V community on fire, and without any word yet from Capcom on the next DLC fighter, who knows how true it is…?

Frame 2:
KOFXIV World Championships
Burn to fight: On-site at The King of Fighters XIV World Championships

We welcome our new Tokyo correspondent Jazz to SRK with his debut piece, giving us land-locked in the West a glimpse into the experience of what attending The King of Fighters XIV World Championships was like. Watch for more like this from Jazz still to come!

Frame 3:
2GGC Civil War
Super Smash Bros. for Wii U’s Civil War is put to rest at 2GGC: Civil War

At long last, Assistant Editor Trilby breaks down the huge Smash 4 event that the hype has been leading up to. Expect 2GGC to only get bigger and better from here.

Frame 4:
samurai shodown kuroko
MrBroken030’s “SS6 Slash and Bust” pushes Samurai Shodown VI combos to their limit

One of the best iterations of one of my favorite series gets some combo video love, and it’s worth every sword-swinging second of it.

Frame 5:
Sheng Long CFN banner
Sheng Long has become a living legend! Learn about his bizarre moves in the 800th CFN Portal profile

We have come full circle, and the cycle is complete: joke character Sheng Long–even after inspiring Gouken–has been officially recognized with his own CFN Portal profile page. Well, sort of. Have a fun April Fool’s Day, everyone!

Keegan “Interrobang!?” Spindler, Features Editor:

Frame 1:
KOF14-DLC-Charas-All-April-5The King of Fighters XIV version 2.00 launches April 5 with balance changes, 2 new stages, & all 4 DLC characters

Although the timing might not be the best personally–only a month before one of the UK’s only majors!–it’s incredibly exciting to see how SNK are continuing to support The King of Fighters XIV. Get me those DLC characters, stat!

Frame 2:
Scarecrow IJ2Captain Cold and Scarecrow join the Injustice 2 roster, with this new villainous trailer

Who doesn’t love a bad boy or two? NetherRealm have done a great job of keeping the hype rolling for Injustice 2’s upcoming release, and this villain trailer is no exception–especially since it announced two new characters.

Frame 3:
Go1Go1 talks to Shoryuken about Capcom Cup, his “King of Poverty” status, and more

Go1 is one of my favorite parts of the FGC. His story is rags to riches–once the King of Poverty, now duking it out on the biggest stages in the world. This interview with Missing Person is smart and interesting, and definitely worth a read.

Frame 4:
Rivals of Aether PackshotFacing the elements: A spotlight on the Rivals of Aether scene

There are a few upcoming fighters that aim to challenge Smash as the premier platform fighter around, but Rivals of Aether certainly stands out with its unique look and blistering speed. On the eve of its launch, our very own Trilby puts the spotlight on the scene that has already grown up around it.

Frame 5:
snk_eisuke_ogura_drawing_processGet a behind-the-scenes look at how SNK’s Eisuke Ogura creates art for The King of Fighters XIV

Although we often talk about how a game looks and feels, we seldom get the chance to look behind the scenes to see how those looks came to life. This is a great chance to see how artwork for one of the biggest titles in the FGC gets created.

Final Fantasy XIV – Japan’s FFXIV-Themed TV Show Headed to Netflix

If you remember a month or two ago, we reported that Japan had created a live-action television show based on Final Fantasy XIV. Called “Daddy of Light”, the show centers on a father and son who both play the game and bond through their shared experiences. Netflix will be rolling out the program to Japanese audiences in mid-April and that a Western version will be released some time after and keep the original series title.
