Capcom promises an official reveal for Street Fighter V’s next DLC fighter on Monday, May 8th

Is Ed’s existence as a playable character finally getting officially acknowledged?

We might already know who’s coming next for Street Fighter V’s Season 2 character DLC, since Ed’s existence was already revealed in a listing on the PlayStation Store. But it looks like Capcom is almost ready to stop pretending that didn’t happen, and give us some real information on the character:

The teaser image, showing Balrog getting messed up by what appears to be Psycho Power, seems a pretty clear nod to Ed. It’s not too late for Capcom to pull a bait-and-switch, though… Looks like we’ll find out for sure on Monday, May 8.

Marvel vs. Capcom: Infinite producers Mike Evans and Peter Rosas talk accessibility, cross-platform play and more

Last week, Capcom finally broke their silence and revealed a lot of new information about Marvel vs. Capcom: Infinite. That said, even with all that was revealed, there are still more than a few questions that many fans are asking. VG24/7’s Alex Donaldson recently got to sit down with the game’s producer Mike Evans and associate producer Peter “Combofiend” Rosas in an interview session that tries to address some of these questions.

One of the things that many players are wondering about are the developers’ efforts to make the game more “accessible.” Regarding this, Combofiend states that “for us, it’s really important for new players to experience how the combat system feels, to be able to perform a combo–to perform an air combo, too.”

This is of course referring to the game’s auto-combos. Those auto-combos have become somewhat controversial since, unlike similar mechanics in games such as Persona 4 Arena and The King of Fighters XIV, their damage output isn’t reduced. Combofiend addresses this by pointing out that these auto-combos only perform a relatively simple ground-to-air combo, and that players that want to be competitive, or that want to be able to take out their opponents as fast as possible, will still be better rewarded by developing and optimizing their own combos.

Another question they addressed was if the game would feature cross platform play. While Street Fighter V has the feature thanks to the Capcom Fighters Network, we already know that Marvel vs. Capcom: Infinite won’t be using the latter. Due to this, MvC:I sadly will not have cross-platform play, due to it being multi-platform and appearing on Microsoft’s Xbox One console in addition to PC and PlayStation 4.

Speaking of Street Fighter V, according to Mike Evans they have learned a lot from the launch of that game. Capcom has experimented with a more service-oriented model in Street Fighter V that saw content slowly rolled out after the game’s launch. With gamers’ relatively negative reaction to this, Marvel vs. Capcom: Infinite will now follow the more traditional model and will be fully featured with both the single player Story and Arcade modes that were (or are still) missing from SFV’s launch.

In addition to this, they also talk about the Vs. series’ rich history and very active community. Being a former competitive player himself, Combofiend assures us that the depth and strategy that competitive player want are still there. “One of the things that really drives the Marvel community is being able to create their own identity within the game,” he says, “Picking their two favorite characters or three favorite characters and utilizing a strategy they’ve created that’s signature to them–there’s no shortage of that in this game.”

As for translating that community into an esports push, he says that the game comes out too late in the season this year (Marvel vs. Capcom: Infinite hits stores on September 19). That said, he has no doubt that the community will rally behind the game and be able to do their own events.

Of course, this is just part of what they talk about. They also discuss other topics such as Marvel’s involvement with selecting the cast and more in the full interview.
