Upcoming indie documentary “FGC Rio” opens up the Brazilian fighting game community to the world

Learn more about the fighting game scene in Rio de Janeiro in this upcoming community-made documentary.

Some of the world’s finest Street Fighter V players hail from the Brazilian FGC, such as Innova|Keoma and F3|Brolynho, for starters. If you’d like a closer look at their scene and their community, the upcoming indie documentary FGC Rio will offer exactly that!

The teaser trailer for FGC Rio — the first Brazilian documentary about the Rio de Janeiro fighting game community, made by the community itself as a not-for-profit project — can be seen below!

FGC Rio is planned for a 2018 release on YouTube. Watch for future updates here on Shoryuken and on the film’s Facebook page.

Sean Grande To Step Down as Bellator MMA and Spike Sports Play-by-Play Announcer

After nearly two years as the play-by-play voice of Bellator and Spike Sports, Sean Grande will be stepping down from his role outside the cage, at least for now. On Monday, Grande released a length statement to MMAFighting.com, detailing his reasons for walking away from the booth, chiefly the amount of travel necessitated by Bellator’s touring schedule, combined with his duties as the radio play-by-play voice of the National Basketball Association’s Boston Celtics.

Tekken 7 roundup: Asuka unblockable 50/50, high-damage Draganov, Xiaoyu tech traps, and more!

The collective Tekken 7 player base is finally starting to pick apart their game’s system, beyond just combos and heavy damage. Check out the traps below, and see if it inspires you find your own tricks!

Fergus61293 explains why the change to Asuka’s unblockable allows her to get a really ridiculous 50/50 in place of her combo enders.

BloodHawkTR is finding ways to force back-turned get-ups off of wall splats.

ncea is playing around with ways to cross up the camera if the opponent techs off the ground. Yes, which-ways exist in Tekken, too!

Yoite Suoh counters, though. Who needs which-ways when you can tech trap with unblockables? This isn’t the only sick Xiaoyu trap we have for you, though…

xMTSento has developed a really sick use for Xiaoyu’s Max Hypnotist 2. This move, you may remember, is +24, and it actually guard breaks. The pushout normally prevents you from following up, but in this tech trap situation, Ling gets guaranteed damage thanks to the shortened space.

Can’t have a Tekken post without some flashy combos, though. HapkidoRed‘s Dragunov and Kazyua combos hit hard and make full use of technical execution and stage awareness.

And lastly, jusful is back with a great King tutorial for improving your instant Shining Wizards.

This is, surely, just the beginning potential of what can be found with Tekken’s trap system. What can you find for your character?

– Skull & Bones – Ubi Allows You to Become the Ultimate Pirate

If you remember Assassin’s Creed 4: Black Flag, you will be interested in Ubisoft’s announcement of Skull & Bones. Players take the part of an “upstart pirate captain” who now sails the Indian Ocean to become the ultimate pirate. Players will need to work cooperatively with others to build fleets, establish and protect trade routs and fight off ruthless gangs out to take over.

Philippines major & Capcom Pro Tour event Manila Cup 2017 announced for September 8-10, adds 4 new games

The 3rd annual Manila Cup is back, and bigger then ever. With a new venue in Circuit Makati, Philippines at the Power Mac Center, the successful Filipino major is slated for another year on the Capcom Pro Tour as a Ranking event. But Street Fighter V is hardly the only game there: every series from last year’s event has returned, with 4 new tournaments joining the fray on September 8th:

  • Street Fighter V
  • Tekken 7
  • Super Smash Bros. for Wii U
  • Injustice 2
  • Guilty Gear Xrd REV 2
  • Blazblue: Central Fiction
  • Mortal Kombat XL
  • The King of Fighters XIV
  • Ultimate Marvel vs. Capcom 3

For Street Fighter V, there’s also pending information for the Road to Manila Cup tournament, an event that shows off local talent prior to Manila Cup. Last year’s winner, PBE|Don, not only ended up placing top 8 in Manila Cup 2016, but sent Japanese pro GW|Eita to losers bracket in the process.
