Frame 1:
Pokkén Tournament DX is coming to Nintendo Switch on September 22nd

I find this announcement bittersweet. While it’s great that The Pokémon Company and Bandai Namco are providing an updated version of this game — one that might additionally address some of the original’s competitive setup annoyances — it also leaves Wii U users out in the cold, forced to buy a new console to continue playing their game with the characters and balance update they should have gotten a long time ago. A predictable result of Nintendo’s hardware cycle, but still disappointing.

Frame 2:
Does ARMS have a competitive future?

Interrobang!? tried ARMS out, and speaks here on the likelihood that this game will become a regular at FGC majors; it’s looking like we may have more of a “cult following” scenario here, rather than wide acceptance.

Frame 3:
VesperArcade discusses Abigail–possibly the next DLC character for Street Fighter V

Is this how I want a Canadian character to finally be a part of Street Fighter…? Not sure, but I’ll reserve judgement until I see the finished product — that is, if Abigail coming to SFV is actually going to happen. Still only a leak…

Frame 1:
Fans modding Ultimate Marvel vs. Capcom 3 to provide “Project Marvel” balance update

Not to be confused with a different Project M, this fan mod hopes to rebalance much of Ultimate Marvel vs. Capcom 3 to fix some glaring gameplay problems. If you fell out of favor with Marvel 3’s jank, Project Marvel may bring you back on its side.

Frame 2:
Injustice 2 gets its first major patch, provides clues for upcoming characters

With Red Hood coming to Injustice 2 on June 13th, the latest patch gave us some better hints on who may be joining the roster this year. Raiden and Black Manta are now confirmed, with a tiny character portrait pointing at Atom being another playable fighter.

Frame 3:
Red Bull shakes up the Super Smash Bros. Melee pantheon with “Smash Gods and Gatekeepers” in September

Finally throwing its hat into hosting Melee tournaments, Red Bull are running a special tournament in September. The event will see the Gods and Gatekeepers of Melee picking crews to either defend or topple the natural order. Will the reign of the Gods end here?

Frame 1:
Indie spotlight: Lethal League swings another home run on consoles

Although it’s built a community on the PC, with so much of the FGC calling consoles home, Lethal League’s console port has been eagerly awaited. It’s great to hear that they nailed it — and I know for a fact that it is a lot of fun.

Frame 2:
Get the basics of backdashing down with this Tekken 7 movement guide

In Tekken, the first law of battle is movement. Without it, you’re a sitting duck — even with the most damaging combos under your belt. Get your crash course on backdashing here, and get a little more dangerous in the ring.

Frame 3:
Yahoo! Esports recounts Nairo’s Super Smash Bros. legacy, ahead of 2GGC: Nairo Saga

There’s nothing I love to see more than beautiful craftsmanship, and this short documentary by Yahoo! Esports is a work of art. Covering Nairo’s competitive career and legacy, it is well worth a watch.

Extra Frame:
Dissidia Final Fantasy NT coming to PlayStation 4 in early 2018

At long last, we have a release window for the next Dissidia, if not an actual release date. This should prove to be an interesting title — it remains to be seen if it can make a splash in the FGC outside of Japan. The Final Fantasy brand will help, but the gameplay will really decide it.
