CHIKKEN: Counter-Strike turned into a Tekken parody (with chickens)

With the increasing number of fighting games on PC, we’re now getting used to seeing them being tweaked by modders. What we’ve seen less of, however, is modders modifying existing games to become fighting games. That’s exactly what one player has done with this mod for Counter-Strike: Global Ops: turning it into a Tekken parody. With chickens.

Called — fittingly enough — CHIKKEN, the mod turns Valve’s competitive tactical first person shooter into a feathered fighter, featuring flightless fowl. As you can see in the video below from KnockingOn, the mod is still in a very, very, rough state. (Note that some of the audio commentary is NSFW.) That said, creator Crashz has stated that improvements are coming to the game, including an actual basic fighting system, combos, more stages, music, sound effect, and unique characters.

CHIKKEN is currently being beta tested on Steam. Interested players can check it out over at the Steam Workshop.

Aksys Games to support BlazBlue and Guilty Gear at Evo 2017 with new merchandise & pot bonuses

A partnership meaning more prize money for competitors and special swag for attendees!

Aksys Games — in conjunction with Arc System Works — is proud to announce their partnership with Evo 2017 to support their featured air-dashing titles, BlazBlue: Central Fiction and Guilty Gear Xrd REV 2! Their booth at the event will offer everything from previews, playables, free swag, signings, and more!

To commemorate the appearance of both BlazBlue: Central Fiction and Guilty Gear Xrd REV 2 as main tournaments at Evo 2017, Aksys Games and Arc System works are providing additional prize support: both titles will each receive a $10,000 pot bonus.

Showing your proof of entry into the BlazBlue or Guilty Gear tournaments at the Aksys booth will get you a commemorative bag (limit one per person!), and new merchandise made specifically for Evo will also be stocked at the booth. Additionally, Arc System Works developers Daisuke Ishiwatari and Toshimichi Mori will both be in attendance for exclusive signing sessions. Stay tuned for more details, coming soon.

Aksys Games and Arc System Works will be livestreaming from their booth via Nico Nico Douga (Japanese) or Twitch (English).

To top it off, if you want to represent North America at the Arc Revolution Cup this year, you’re in luck — Aksys Games has revealed they will be selecting two “Aksys Heroes” to lead a team of fighting game players to the Arc Revolution Cup. Rules and selection details still to come.

There’s still a couple of days to register for Evo! If you’re an ASW fan, this event just got even better for you, so don’t miss your shot! Registration closes on Friday, June 30. Evo 2017 takes place at Mandalay Bay in Las Vegas, Nevada on July 14-16.

Tekken 7 exceeds 1000 registered competitors for Evo 2017

Evolution 2017 is set to be the biggest Tekken tournament ever!

Originally revealed by Mark “MarkMan” Julio on Facebook, registration for Tekken 7 at Evo 2017 has risen to more than 1000 players! This is nearly double 2016’s total of 543, demonstrating that Tekken 7 has definitely made a strong impact on the FGC — especially now that it’s available on PlayStation 4/Xbox One/PC.

There are still two days left to register for Evolution 2017! Registration will close at 11:59 PM PDT on Friday, June 30th. Evo hits Mandalay Bay in Las Vegas, Nevada on July 14-16, 2017.

Panda Global have begun releasing version 3 of their global Smash 4 player rankings

Collating together results from several tournaments around the world, Panda Global and their stats team have begun to release the third PGR for Super Smash Bros. for Wii U. This ranking covers tournaments between January 7th and June 18th, with CEO 2017 being the last tournament that counted towards this list.

Tournaments were rated via the PG Tournament Tier System, and player rankings were determined by looking at their placings at various events, combined with their respective wins and losses. For a complete breakdown of the methodology for the PGR v3, check out the FAQ over on its official website.

So far, only ranks 41-50 have been declared, with the PG Stats team planning to release ranks 40-31 on June 29th, ranks 30-21 on July 3rd, ranks 20-11 on July 5th, and then the top 10 on July 7th. This means we should have an up-to-date ranking ahead of Evo 2017.

Canada Cup 2017 retrospective trailer asks: “What does Canada Cup mean to you?”

This official trailer for Canada’s biggest fighting game event gathers answers to that question from players and FGC personalities.

Canada Cup Gaming has released a retrospective trailer for Canada Cup 2017, set to take place in Toronto, Ontario on October 26-29 as a Capcom Pro Tour Premier event. The new trailer asks “What does Canada Cup mean to you?” Alex Valle, James Chen, Echo Fox’s Justin Wong, Razer’s Xian, EG|K-Brad and others talk about their experiences and perspective on this event and its history.

Additionally, 2017’s Canada Cup Vancouver takes place this weekend, after a venue change.
