Tekken 7 roundup: Eliza combos, knockdown tutorial, Devil Jin electrics, and more!

Tekken 7 is now in the creative hands of the FGC, and right ouf of the gate players are pushing the damage and the metagame as hard as they can. Let’s see what’s developed thus far in the King of Iron Fist Tournament scene!

Eliza, a character built around 2D-like cancels and jump mechanics, is already starting to look like she has excellent damage output in BJ 포립‘s combo video.

King Jae shows us some clever ways to get out of Gigas’s terrifying 50/50 after his Rage Drive. Some characters don’t have to respect the mixup at all–at least not the mid/high one you’re accustomed to.

rooflemonger has a quick beginners guide to getting of the ground–which is one of the most important fundamentals to understand in Tekken!

If you’re a Kuma player, GreenTekken has some bad news for you.

Japanese player jusful is back with some more advanced ways to land surprise command grabs for King.

Want to play a Mishima? Do you have electrics on standby? Then blankaex‘s Devil Jin combo video is for you. As long as you can do Electric Wind God Fist, of course.

But maybe the patriarch of the Mishima Zaibatsu is more your speed. In that case, HurtboxTV has you covered with this Heihachi combo breakdown.

Not everyone is a Mishima fan–just ask Lee. Then again, with wall carry that KEY1DRPlayz shows off, Lee doesn’t need to be a fan of anyone other than himself.

And closing out today’s list, anthony piccaver sent us this Shaheen combo video, showing off stage transitions and some interesting uses of Rage Drive mid-combo.

Early days are always going to be combo video heavy for a new game (especially Tekken!), but I’m most excited for the tech and match-up videos that will develop. What tech have you come up with?

Injustice 2 gets its first major patch, provides clues for upcoming characters

Following Injustice 2’s first big tournament at Combo Breaker, NetherRealm Studios have released the first major patch for their super-powered fighter. In quite the change from previous NRS games, this patch mainly includes bug fixes and quality-of-life tweaks, rather than major character changes.

Besides general stability improvements, Injustice 2 now tells you if your opponent is playing via wireless or a wired connection, so you know who to blame if a match starts to get laggy. Gear sets now also appear on the loading screen as you join into a match, and corrections have been made to the in-game move list, so it displays the correct frame data.

As for character-specific changes, the only major nerf came to Joker’s Chattering Teeth, which can no longer set up an unblockable situation on certain characters. Otherwise, most of the balance changes were to rectify bugs, like Scarecrow not having any invincibility frames on his wakeup attacks. This hands-off balance approach is certainly different to NetherRealm’s previous history of causing radical metagame shifts with each patch, so let’s see if fans respond positively to this change in direction.

For all the changes, make sure to check out the full patch notes on the Injustice website. Besides Scarecrow actually having wakeup options now, I’m most pleased to see that Mr. Freeze finally has his helmet back. All of the nine upcoming DLC characters have also been added to the character select screen, with Red Hood being the only character not shrouded in shadow.

Injustice 2 new CSS

Besides Black Manta and Raiden–who are obvious via their trademark headgear–a notable character is the tiny fighter on the far right hand corner of the CSS. DC fans have posited that this character is mostly like Atom, a shapeshifting superhero who can shrink and grow his body for the situation at hand.
